Quicksilver: Extended

Hi All,

A while back I posted a feature request on GitHub "Feature Request:
Exclusion of filetype for folder" which was largely ignored. Now' I've
actually managed to implemented the feature(s) myself:

* Exclude Catalog Content by Filetypes

* Descend into Bundles Toggle

The first allows you to define, on a per-catalog basis, which
filetypes to exclude from indexing; and the second allows you to
prevent QS from indexing files inside bundles (*.pkg, *.app, etc.).

You can download my build from here: http://github.com/qiushihe/blacktree-alchemy/downloads

And if you want to know what it looks like: http://surrealtime.tumblr.com/qs

Updated Viscosity plug-in

There’s a new version of Viscosity with some AppleScript features that allow me to do some things I (and
others) have wanted in Quicksilver. I’ve updated the plug-in to take advantage of them.

There are now actions to connect and disconnect all the VPNs you have defined. When the Viscosity
application itself is selected in the first pane, you should see these actions in the second pane.
(Disconnect only shows up if Viscosity is running.) Note that these actions are higher up than “Open”
when you first install the plug-in. If you prefer to have Quicksilver just launch the application by
default, you’ll need to move the new ones down below “Open” in the prefs.

There’s also a way to get the state of a specific connection from Viscosity now, so if you select a
connection in the first pane, the second pane will show the action that makes the most sense (connect or
disconnect) by default. This makes disconnecting much easier.

I haven’t tested it with ß57/ß58, so let me know if it doesn’t work.

Nice. Are you going to send a pull request to have this integrated into the main QS repository? Things are
confusing enough as it is. I’d hate to see a bunch of alternate versions pop up.

When you say “filetype”, do you mean type (as in UTI) or filename extension? I’m just thinking that
nothing made in 2010 should rely on extensions. Support them, sure, but don’t use them exclusively.

where is the combo box??

I can't find it, need it to use the screen capture tool. Where is it?

Re: where is the combo box??

Do you mean the command window? The default keyboard shortcut to bring
it up is Control-Space, but you can customize this to whatever you
want. If that isn't working for you for some reason, double clicking
on Quicksilver.app in the Applications folder will bring it up, and
then you can press Command-comma to get into Quicksilver's preferences
and set the activation shortcut to something you will remember.

For more information, see Howard Melman's extremely helpful Unofficial
User's Guide, at http://groups.google.ca/group/blacktree-quicksilver/browse_thread/thread/ef99bcac45de5ca7?hl=en#

Newbie Questions - Duplicated "Hits", Yellow vs. Gray Dots

When I invoke QS, I typically end up with a list containing results
that are duplicated, one right after another. What am I doing wrong.

On top of that, some of the results have a yellowish dot next to them,
rather than a gray dot. What does that mean?

Thanks, all.

Check you Catalog preferences and see if “Recent Objects” is checked. I think that’s what was
causing this for me.

No idea. Which interface are you using?

Re: "Show menu items" yields incomplete list

Are any of you able to identify with the problem I describe and
perhaps offer a solution? Thanks again.

Re: "Show menu items" yields incomplete list

You don't need to drill down through the menu items to get to what you're after, you just trigger 'show menu items' then begin typing in what your after.

So in your example say I wanted Edit  ☞ Substitutions ☞ Smart Links,  I'd hit my trigger for 'current application ☞ show menu items', then, rather than beginning to type  'Substitutions' I'd start typing 'Smart' & Smart Links will appear as well as Smart Quotes etc.

Mail.app, for example, if I want edit -> substitutions, by typing
"SUB" all I get is "subject." When I type SUBS it then switches to
text mode.

This eliminates about 75% of why I wanted this feature -- to drill
down into submenus.

Any tips?
