xmodmap with XWin -query

Scanning mail archives I didn't find something helpful
starting XWin with an option for other than an US-keyboard
when starting XWin with the "-query remotehost" - option=20
to access a remote xdm-login.
Since my experience is negligible I need a somewhat=20
detailed description.
Up to now I tried to launch xmodmap xmodmap.de and
setxkbmap de. putting those commands into the script before
the XWin-command leads to "unable to open display"-
message. Putting it after the XWin-command leads to=20
execution after termination. starting XWin with &-option
also doesn't work.
Both variants work fine starting XWin with a local Window
manager.

Any suggestions?

Hi, Federico,

Just a wild guess. Did you install the OpenSSH package
when you installed Cygwin?

associations (remote??)

I currently run cygwin/XFree86/KDE on my Win2K machine.

I then 'ssh -X' over to a Linux box and run evolution.

That works great most of the time.

I can also run the konqueror directly on my PC, or remotely on the Linux
box.

If an e-mail has a url in it, I can cut and paste the url to konqueror
and it works fine.

My problem is I can't right click on the url and cause it to open
konqueror.

I don't even know where it should run.

Do I need to setup some associations? If so, how and where?

Thanks
Greg

Cygwin as a Server to XClients

Folks,

I realise that there has been a similar topic already posted in this group
but I have a couple of twists to this that I think requires a new subject.

I wish to use my Win2K Server as an xdm server for my daughters Linux box
and wifes Mac OSX (running XDarwin).  There are two reasons for this;
1) My daughters Linux box is _very_ slow and she may pick up some speed for
certain applications that have been ported.
2) If there is a version of OpenOffice that I can run on the Cygwin server
then my entire household could _finally_ share an office suite.

Can anyone tell me if either or both of these are achievable and how I go
about doing it?

cannot open xterm

Hi
I installed cygwin-xfree and put desktop icons.

I want to be able to install sunone appserver on
solaris machine. I want to get display of the
installer etc... ( I am not a unix person so please
bear with my description)

1.I click on the desktop icon i get username <at> hostname~
2.Now I telent to solaris box and connect as root.
3.set DISPLAY=hostname:0.0
4.export DISPLAY
5.I search for xterm and I find it in two places
./usr/openwin/bin/xterm
./usr/share/lib/terminfo/x/xterm
6. ./usr/share/lib/terminfo/x/xterm complained it
cannot execute.
I did a chmod +x on it
Went to the directory ./usr/share/lib/terminfo/x
and did a ./xterm
I get this "./xterm: syntax error at line 1:
`^Z^A$%!\212^A' unexpected"
7. Now I try ./usr/openwin/bin/xterm
went to the directory ./usr/openwin/bin/ and did
./xterm .
I get "./xterm Xt error: Can't open display:"
8. I read in
http://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-xfree/2002-10/msg00052.html
about xhost
went to / and did ./usr/openwin/bin/xhost + hostname

Conflict with -multiwindow and xfig?

Running cygwin's "xfig" locally from an xterm on XWin-Test-91 started with

 SET DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:1
 ...
 start /B XWin-Test91.exe :1 -kb -multiwindow
 ...

crashes with a window saying:
"XWin-Test91.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows".

XWin-Test91.exe.stackdump says:

 Exception: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION at eip=610403F0

There are no obvious complaints in tmp/XWin.log

xfig works fine on the same system started without -multiwindow.

The system is Windows2000-sr4. I think all cygwin files are up to date.
There is only one cygwin1.dll.

Am I missing something or is this a bug?

Thanks for a very robust system.

In the first week we had an incredible high traffic. One week brought as
much postings as a whole month did before ;)

Problems installing font

Having recently installed cygwin/XFree, I try to ssh to an HP workstation
(asterix) running Mentor Graphics. The program crashes due to a font error.
I'm able to run an xterm from the same machine, so X is enabled in ssh.

What I need to know is how to procede; what kind of font file should I
obtain, how should I install the fonts on my Cygwin system?

Best regards,

XWin and -multiplemonitors works once, but not twice?

When I run XWin with the following:
start /B XWin -engine 1 -nowinkill -multiplemonitors -nodecoration
-rootless -clipboard

It does open and span both my monitors.

If I close XWin and start it again, however, it only displays on the
first monitor.

The log file claims that both monitors are not running at the same
resolution/bit depth. This is untrue.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Thanks!
