New Package: run, Updated: X-startup-scripts, X-start-menu-icons

INFO
====

The run utility has been moved from X-startup-scripts to a new package.

run.exe will start console programs and hide their console. This is useful for
creating desktop shortcuts to XWin, xterm or using ssh for windows ssh clients.

The X-startup-scripts and X-start-menu-icons packages have been updated to
use the new run package.

UPDATE
======

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on the
http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your system. Save it

Updated: libungif-4.1.4-1

The following packages have been updated in the Cygwin distribution:

*** libungif-4.1.4-1
+++ libungif4-4.1.4-1 (NEW)

Libungif is a library for manipulating GIF files, without the
patent-encumbered LZW compression code.

This release is an update to upstream 4.1.4, which contains a fix for
two security issues (CVE-2005-2974, CVE-2005-3350). All previous
releases have been removed from the release tree.

In addition, the shared libungif has been broken out into its own package.

Security update: clamav-0.87.1-1

Clam AntiVirus is subject to vulnerabilities ranging from Denial of
Service to execution of arbitrary code when handling compressed
executables.  (CAN-2005-2919, CAN-2005-2920)

Clam AntiVirus is also vulnerable to integer overflows when handling
several file formats, potentially resulting in the execution of
arbitrary code.  (CAN-2005-2450)

Solution: Update to 0.87.1-1

About:
Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose of
this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment
scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded
daemon, a commandline scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with
the Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.

Changes:
  security fixes,
  improve scanning of zip files.

updated: postgresql-8.0.4-1 and 8.1.0-1

postgresql 8.0.4 and 8.1.0 is released.

What's new:
  http://www.postgresql.org/docs/whatsnew (for 8.1)
  http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.0/static/release.html#RELEASE-8-0-4

Before you upgrade a postgresql package to a new new major or
minor version (7.4 => 8.0 => 8.1), be sure to dump all your data before!
With the new package you will not be able to access your old databases.
Minor subreleases (e.g. 8.0.3 to 8.0.4) can safely access the same database.
=> http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.0/static/app-pg-dumpall.html

Be sure to read the README.cygwin and the postgresql documentation.

I recommend to install the new 8.1 right away, available as [test] version
from setup, and skip 8.0 altogether. 8.1. has major feature improvements
over 8.0, esp. when you use tsearch2 and PostGIS (crash-recovery on GiST
indices, improved concurrency).

I'll keep 8.0 a while as curr, but will drop 7.4 from prev soon.

Please ask questions here at <cygwin <at> cygwin.com>,
and only if you really have to, over at <pqsql-cygwin <at> postgresql.org>.

Updated: apr(-util) 0.9.7-1

APR and APR-util, portability and miscellaneous utility libraries,
have been updated in the Cygwin net distribution to version 0.9.7-1.

This is an upstream bugfix release.

I've also backported a few build-related changes from 1.x so that it
really is possible to build apr-util separately from apr, and removed an
assumption about the directory structure of my own local buildsystem.

Updated: cygrunsrv-1.11-1

I have updated cygrunsrv to version 1.11-1.

This is a bugfix release. When a service process exits unexpectedly
while startup, cygrunsrv accidentally didn't inform the system that
the service has stopped. The result was an unresponsive cygrunsrv
and a service control manager which could neither stop nor restart the
affected service.
