Updated: binutils-20050608-1

I've made a new version of binutils available for installation.

This version is a refresh from CVS and contains a fix for a
long-standing problem with executable files which caused debugging
information to be loaded into memory rather than just referenced from
disk as intended. This problem indirectly caused the latest CVS
version of cygwin to be unstrippable.

For a brief description of this package, and a listing of the files it
contains, see http://cygwin.com/packages/binutils . The project web
page has more details: http://sourceware.org/binutils/ .

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on
the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your
system. Then, run setup and answer all of the questions.

Updated: binutils-20050608-2

I've made a new version of binutils available for installation.

This is a quick update from the release I made a few hours ago which
corrects some section handling problems that I introduced in my patch.
This version should now correctly build the Cygwin DLL.

contains, see http://cygwin.com/packages/binutils . The project web
page has more details: http://sourceware.org/binutils/ .

New package: catgets

The catgets package is now available in the Cygwin distribution. Catgets
is a programming library for issuing messages via a message catalog so
a program can speak multiple languages. The library contains the
X/Open standard catgets(), catopen(), and catclose() calls. The package
also includes the X/Open standard program gencat, which creates a message
catalog.

Many programs are written to use the standard catgets facility, so this
package makes it possible to run those under Cygwin.

This is the GNU C library's implementation, adapted to Cygwin.

Updated: subversion-1.2.0-1

Subversion, a version control system which aims to be a compelling
replacement for CVS, has been updated in the Cygwin net distribution to
version 1.2.0-1.

This is a new upstream *feature* release.

The upstream release notes are here:
http://subversion.tigris.org/svn_1.2_releasenotes.html

For the Subversion 1.2.x release series, I have opted to remain linking with
Berkeley DB 4.2, as the procedure for upgrading Berkeley DB repositories
requires significant manual intervention. I'll review this decision when
Subversion 1.3.x nears.

Cygwin-specific packaging news:
There is now a subversion-python package, containing the Python bindings for
Subversion.

Max Bowsher.

New package: xmon-1.5.6-1

The package 'xmon' is now available in the Cygwin
distribution.

Description
===========
(from http://www.x.org/contrib/devel_tools/xmon.1.5.6.README)

Xmon interactively monitors the byte-stream connections between an X
server and a number of X clients. Xmon recognizes all requests,
events, errors and replies sent between the clients and the server
which are part of the core X protocol. The contents of these messages
are displayed on standard output at a user settable degree of detail
from none to every bit and byte. Xmon also allows the user to select
a number of requests or events to be monitored at a different degree
of detail. Xmon will also block the transmission of selected requests
from the clients to the server and selected events from the server to
the clients. Xmon also keeps statistics of the number of requests,
events, and errors received.

Updated: cpio-2.6-3

I've just updated the version of cpio to 2.6-3.

resulted in cpio not being able to recognize all option characters.
The patch has been send upstream.

the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your
system. Then, run setup and answer all of the questions.

Updated: unison2.10.2 and unison2.12.0

Updated versions of the unison2.10.2 and unison2.12.0 packages are now
available in the Cygwin distribution. These are bugfix releases. They
fix multiple minor problems, including an incomplete fix to the
diff-over-ssh problem patched in the last release.

Unison is a file synchronizer for Unix and Windows. It allows two replicas
of a collection of files and directories to be stored on different hosts
(or different disks on the same host), modified separately, and then
brought up to date by propagating the changes in each replica to the
other.

Updated: tcsh-6.14.00-4

I've updated the version of tcsh to 6.14.00-4.

This is a Cygwin bugfix release. It solves the following two problems
in former versions:

- Commands were always stored lowercased in the command hash table so
that commands as "HeLlO" could only be started by typing "hello".

- Commands were only stored without their suffix in the command hash
table so that, for instance, gcc could be started by typing "gcc",
  but not by typing "gcc.exe".

The patch is also going upstream.

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on
the http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your
system. Then, run setup and answer all of the questions.

If you have general questions or comments, please send them to the

it if you would use this mailing list rather than emailing me directly.
