Updated Cygwin Package: postgresql-7.3.4-1

New News:
=== ====
I have updated the version of PostgreSQL to 7.3.4-1. The tarballs should
be available on a Cygwin mirror near you shortly.

It is recommend that 7.3.x users upgrade at their earliest convenience.
See the following for the details, if interested:

    http://www.postgresql.org/news/142.html

Note this package was built against Cygwin 1.3.22-1 and cygipc 1.14-1.
Hence, it is *not* a 64-bit, Cygwin 1.5.x test package.

Available for test: cygwin-1.5.2-1

I've made a new version of the Cygwin DLL and associated utilities
available for download.

This version is currently available for testing only. The 1.5.x
versions of the DLL contains major changes in some APIs such that 64 bit
file I/O operations are now available as well as 32 bit uids and gids.

This means that some structures such as those found in 'stat' and
'dirent' have changed. Older applications will continue to work
correctly but DLLs and libraries which use any structures whose size has
changed will need to be recompiled and relinked. Barring any problems,
this version should become the current cygwin version on 2003-08-23.

There have been two problems with previous 1.5.x releases. One involved
any application that used fdopen and another involved any application
that used -lc on the command line. If you have rebuilt a library or
application for 1.5.0 or 1.5.1 and you used either of these, you will
need to relink your app for 1.5.2. I'm very sorry for the
inconvenience. Executables linked for/with 1.3.22 or earlier should
continue to work fine.

If you are maintaining a cygwin package, then you should be subscribed
to the cygwin-apps mailing list, and you should be following the
discussions there about rebuilding for the cygwin 1.5.x series. If you
are a package maintainer and are not actively following this list, there
is a strong possibility that your package will be pulled from the cygwin
distribution.

Updated: cygutils-1.1.4-2

Actually, this has been out for about a month but smtp problems (and
later, absentmindedness) meant that it never got announced. (Thx, Igor,
for the reminder). So....

The cygutils package has been updated to version 1.1.4-2. This is a
cygwin-1.3.22 release; it is NOT a test/cygwin-1.5.x version. Upgrade
to this version now.

Changes (since 1.1.4-1)
o Fix slight bug in lpr (gilles civario)

Changes (since 1.1.3-1)
o Rick Rankin provided an improved (re)implementation of lpr.
      - device name can now contain forward slashes
      - some windows-style device names for local devices now
        also are allowed (e.g. 'lpt1')
   o mkshortcut supports a new -w/--workingdir option.

New package: wtf-0.0.3-1

wtf(6) is a utility provided by some UNIX and UNIX-like systems including
Slackware Linux and NetBSD. It translates acronyms and filename suffixes
by looking up the definition of a term in various databases.

I've added the OLOCA (<http://cygwin.com/acronyms/>) to the database
directory, so the acronyms from the Cygwin lists will be found (yes, you
can now really ask "wtf is cgf" ;-) ). There's a perl script in the
source package to update the OLOCA database from the web version of the
OLOCA for those who can't wait for regular package updates (also requires
wget). See the README file for details.

To update your installation, click on the "Install Cygwin now" link on the
http://cygwin.com/ web page. This downloads setup.exe to your system.
Once you've downloaded setup.exe, run it and select "Publishing" or
"Graphics" and then click on the appropriate field until the above
announced version number appears if it is not displayed already.

If you have questions or comments, please send them to the Cygwin mailing
list at: cygwin at cygwin dot com . I would appreciate it if you would
use this mailing list rather than emailing me directly. This includes
ideas and comments about the setup utility or Cygwin in general.

If you want to make a point or ask a question, the Cygwin mailing list is
the appropriate place.

Updated: wtf-0.0.4-1

I've updated wtf to 0.0.4-1 (a new upstream release). This is still

Updated: perl-5.8.0-4

perl-5.8.0-4 release has been uploaded to sourceware
-- it should be on the mirrors soon.

New in this release:

- This is a bugfix release.
- Fixed a binmode() issue. Building recent version of Cygwin should
be possible with this release. Many thanks to Don Slutz who provided
a patch and a testsuite for this bug.
- Some modules updated to latest.
- *DBM modules linked against libgdbm3 now.
- New FHS layout.
- Try `instmodsh`

THIS IS A REAL NEW PERL RELEASE THAT IS BINARY INCOMPATIBLE WITH ANY
PREVIOUS PERL RELEASE. THIS MEANS THAT YOUR OLD EXTENSIONS (.xs code,
those Perl modules requiring a C compiler) WILL NOT WORK AND WILL HAVE
TO BE RECOMPILED. (Pure Perl modules should continue working.)

NOTES
=====

Of course your installed perl-5.8.0 modules should continue to work if
you just upgrade to 5.8.0-4.

README
------

A short document, perl-5.8.0.README is in /usr/share/doc/Cygwin.
The output of 'perl -V' gives some infos about the compiletime and

RE: Updated: perl-5.8.0-4

I'm confused! My current version of perl is 5.8.1-1 and yet this update is a
lower version of 5.8.0-4! I can only assume I've installed a test version at
some time. Should I stay with 5.8.1-1 or revert/update to 5.8.0-4?

Regards,
Tony.
