Py Setup Tools uninstall snag during port uninstall inactive

I did a %% sudo port uninstall inactive

And got an error related to py setup tools:

How do I determine what ports rely upon py-setuptools again?

"no matching architecture in universal wrapper while executing"

Dear all,

I am running OSX 10.6.8 and I would like to use macports to fix some library incompatibility problem ( "Reason: Incompatible library version: libXft.2.dylib requires version 6.0.0 or later, but libfontconfig.1.dylib provides version 5.0.0" )

But when I do:
" sudo /opt/local/bin/port install freetype "

I get the following:

dlopen(/opt/local/share/macports/Tcl/macports1.0/MacPorts.dylib, 10): no suitable image found.  Did find:
/opt/local/share/macports/Tcl/macports1.0/MacPorts.dylib: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
    while executing
"load /opt/local/share/macports/Tcl/macports1.0/MacPorts.dylib"
    ("package ifneeded macports 1.0" script)
    invoked from within
"package require macports"
    (file "/opt/local/bin/port" line 38)

Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thank you!
Cheers -- Anna.

port clean all stops at py25-mayavi

port clean all stops at py25-mayavi and displays the message

Error: Unable to open port: Port remote fetch failed: You do not have permission to write to /opt/local/var/macports/portdirs
To report a bug, see <http://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets>

port clean py25-mayavi does the same thing. py2{6,7}-mayavi do not have this problem.

Bug http://trac.macports.org/ticket/33198 filed.

Newbie question

Is there a way to make a port compiled program start maximized and
with no terminal in background ?

Examples
1) if start gkrellm it will start inside a terminal and the terminal
will be there until i close the GUI.
2) kmymoney always start half outside the screen and with no focus.

Help with Lion's symbolic links

I apologize for raising an issue that is not specific to macports, but
Google hasn't provided me an answer. In any case, after upgrading my
system to Lion I find that I can no longer save to symbolic links to a
directory in standard Mac GUI applications. So, for instance, I might
have dir_orig as a directory in my home directory and create (using ln
-s) dir_link which points to dir_orig. When I'm in some Mac app and
hit command-S to save (e.g. in Word), I see that dir_link is grayed
out and I can't save my file into it. Permissions on both the link and
the original directory are fine (I can set both to world rwx and it's
still a problem). I found some mentions of this problem on Google, but
no solutions or explanations. I can work around it by changing
symbolic links to aliases, but it will be a serious headache if I have
to do that for all of them. Have others here met with this problem?
Any solutions?

Thanks!

So you meant the link on install page.

Your download seems actually fine, what does the following lines output?
 hdiutil attach MacPorts-2.0.3-10.7-Lion.dmg

> And, btw, the combo updater for OS X 10.7.3 did not fix the problem.

I wasn't expecting it to do that.

Question about Xcode 4.2.1 on Lion

Hi Everyone

I recently noticed what appears to be a change in Apple's Xcode 4.2.1 that seems to be breaking everything I try to install.  Basically, I just need a sanity check to make sure I am not doing something wrong, and whether anyone else is seeing the same behavior.

Basically…I am seeing that clang is being chosen as the default compiler now and not gcc.  This seems to be causing a lot of ports to simply not build at all, and is causing severe system failings to occur -- such as, not being able to access /var/log for error output logging, and my Chrome browser begins to fail with the Crash Robot error page.  I am force to reboot in order to fix this and its getting really annoying…since I can't downgrade to Xcode3 which does work until MacPorts decides to version check and yell at me for using an old version that isn't supported on Lion.

I will use the git-core port as my example…see below for the errors I am seeing all over the place as of recently:

I know I will probably end up filing a bug…but I just need to know if there is anything I can do to force macports to just use GCC instead of CLANG…because CLANG is just messy, and doesn't seem to work like GCC.

Thanks,
Jeff S.
