db44-aes conflicts with db. db3 provides db and is to be installed.

Hello,

The update-all does not work, giving the fail message: db44-aes conflicts with db. db3 provides db and is to be installed.
I've tried several things, including installing one package at a time, and then re-update all. With no luck.

---
Is there a way to see which packages that I have installed that require db3?

With this, I could just remove the conflict by deleting these packages and db3.

Regards,
David

How many single updates did you try. You should be able to do single
packages until everything is updated. Your remaining update graph is
presumably still too complicated for "update-all" to work.

What might help you along is to update only those packages that Depend
on db3-shlibs, which you can see via

    apt-cache showpkg db3-shlibs

under the "Reverse Depends" line. (db3 is a build dependency only, and
won't be listed there) Update those packages together, and then you
should be able to do an update-all.

Thanks, I've applied this patch and confirm that fuse runs on 10.6 now.

hello,

is there in fink the equivalent of the debian "apt-get autoremove" command, to get rid of orphan/obsolete packages?

'apt-get autoremove' is implemented. There's also "fink cleanup", which
does that and also removes obsolete sources.

Let's notify the maintainer of that package (cc'ed).

I've resolved the Tcl issue by adding a buildconflicts: tcltk-dev, so that
only the system's headers are used (this probably address other packages
that use system-tcl as well). We can still use Apple's shipped Tcl, and
avoid bringing in fink's Tcl dependence. I've re-uploaded thew new info
file combined with the proposed -nox variant that's on the tracker.

Re: matplotlib-py26 install trouble.

Hi,

I only came upon this thread after having some trouble with matplotlib
myself...

Just wondering - by this do you mean you removed all the fink
python2.6-libraries
and reinstalled them and afterwards succeeded in building matplotlib-
py26,
or did you then compile matplotlib independently of fink? The latter
does not
really sound like a solution to the fink package's problem...
What I found, also perhaps trying to be more on the bleeding edge, was
that
matplotlib 0.99 and in particular 0.99.1 introduced a number of new
configuration
settings, among others setting a default to try to install its own
pytz and dateutil
in setup.cfg.
I managed to put a working package for 0.99.1.1 afterwards, attached
below.

On this occasion, I am wondering if sending updated package
descriptions to the
list, as I've done before, is the appropriate way, or whether I should
rather send
them directly to the maintainer or simply be content to wait until
they've checked in
their own updates or...

Whatever the correct upgrade path, I'd also like to make a suggestion
at this point:
Is it possible to remove the numeric-py and numarray-py dependencies,
perhaps at
least make them "Suggests:" or "Enhances:" instead? They are clearly
no longer required
to build or use matplotlib (in fact I am not even sure if they are
still officially supported as
backends, since that configuration option has been removed now), and I
find it rather
painful to still being forced to keep two long outdated libraries
installed.
I'd think anyone who still needs either of them for legacy routines or
data would know
so on their own - just my 2d.

Cheers,
						Derek

You should consider sending your package description to the maintainer
of the matplotlib package ("fink info matplotlib") because he would be
the one to make any changes.

Thank you for your answer. I tried the precompiled 2.1.6 and it works
(without sound) but it's quite different and I don't know if I like
it. The 2.0.9 doesn't start :-((
So now I will try the 2.1.9_RC1.
Thanks again!
