I am not sure when and why this was added. I sure played with the
linker flags but cannot recall this one. I currently do not have a
working system to test with. We had some crashes reported and they
mysteriously disappeared when linked with pthreads (which should be
the case with the current unstable package).

Before getting excited about removing -Os, I think it should first be
confirmed that the crash still happens when the latest versions of ruby
(1.8.6) and of xcode (2.4.1) are installed. I know nothing about ruby,
but I just installed (on a ppc G5) ruby-1.8.6-1 and

Problems upgrading imagemagick

On my Macbook Pro, I have been having trouble updating fink lately.  The package imagemagick is dying during the update build process due to a missing "macro `AM_GNU_GETTEXT'".   I am running the latest version of the OS as of this writing, 10.4.10.  I have made no changes to the default installation of the OS.  I have no idea if this is a related, but I do have the latest Xcode (2.5) installed for a while, but it didn't effect the gcc version (4.0.1) that came with the original developer tools.  Any idea of what the cause could be -- or even better a solution to it?  A detailed clipping of the (failed) build process is pasted below for reference.

Thanks,

...the actual problem you're having is with the popt package.

What version of the "gettext-tools" package do you have installed?
Does reinstalling it ('fink reinstall gettext-tools') solve the
building of the popt package?

teTeX and MacTeX question

On a MacPro running 10.4.10, I am having some trouble installing an
update to gnuplot. I have deleted my previously installed LaTeX
installation to see if I could complete the build process (thinking
it was a conflict of some sort between tex distributions), but the
same problem persists. Any idea of what could be going on? The gcc
is 4.0.1 (that came with the latest release of the developer tools).

   A snippet is attached below:

mplayer window annoyance

Hi,

I just built mplayer via `fink install'. It works farily fine, except
that whenever I start mplayer, like `$ mplayer foo.avi', it will open an
almost useless window menu. Can i disable it from creating the window,
just running on the command line?

  i gettext-tools 0.14.5-3 GNU Internationalization utils

Rebuilding gettext-tools works without problem and gives the same
version information. After this attempting to install popt gives an
undefined symbol error in the automake process (output pasted
below). I am confused as to what to try next. Fink is using the
developer tools autoreconf I assume. I note that the version of the
autoreconf tool I have is "autoreconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.6". I note
that this is different than my powerpc system (which uses 2.59). I
suspect that I many be a victim of the Xtools beta for Lepoard that I
installed a while ago from ADT. Is this autoreconf broken? If this
is the case what is the best countermeasure -- should I install the
older version of the developer tools from Apple's developer site. It
is too bad that things are so fragile.

Imagemagick tribulations

Well I mentioned that autoreconf seemed to be different on the PPC and the Intel macs I had.  Upon checking another Intel (Mac Pro) I found that his also had version 2.60 of autoreconf.  I note that in trying to build popt, I end up with errors due to an undefined symbol still (where does this symbol "AM_GNU_GETTEXT" actually live?).  The build process stops due to the same error regardless of whether I build from the tarball or "cheat" can copy a deb from the Mac Pro.  What is screwed up here -- I would be willing to reinstall fink, but I suspect that the problem may be within the gcc tools somewhere.  Any suggestions?

Thanks   Paul
