octave-forge-2006.03.17-1004 doesn't like octave-2.9.12-13

OS 10.4.9
PowerPC
Xcode Tools 2.4.1

Because the failure mode was such that items would error out but the
build would continue, it would be lengthy to post the output here. I
have instead posted the build log at

http://akhmac.blogdns.net/~hansen/finklogs/fink-build-log_octave-forge_2006.03.17-1004_2007.05.31-22.33.51

Manually downloading Fink packages

I'm trying to install tetex and tetex-texmf which require massive
downloads (dialup).

Therefore I would like to use a separate download manager for the
source packages. The Fink FAQ gives instructions on locating the
packages on the Internet, and then moving the downloaded packages to /
sw/src where they will be picked up on a fink install.

However, I have been unable to determine the specific source file name
(s) making up a fink (source) package. The FAQ seems to think that
one already knows the file name. Google searches don't turn up exact
matching filenames with version numbers. Also the files found by
Google don't seem to match the size of the downloads that the fink
install is attemtping.

The two URLs in the Fink FAQ where supposedly these packages are
stored do not work:

http://distfiles.master.finkmirrors.net/

http://us.dl.sourceforge.net/fink/direct_download/source/

Do the fink "info" files apply only to the binaries? And the "deb"
files apply to the source?

Thanks

What FAQ page are you referencing?

The latter URL is for special cases, e.g. to host CVS snapshots. The
finkmirrors.net network sites do indeed work, so you probably just need
a different method.

man fink suggests that the following should work:

fink fetch -d -r package_name_you_want

You should be able to pick up the full download URLs from the output. But, if there is a .deb file that fink
would download from the binary distribution, I'm not sure how to find the URL to download the .deb.

You can also find the .info files for the packages, and manually inspect them to find the source URL. Note
that you will need to decipher fink's percent expansion:

ImageMagick, gettext & a PHP based gallery

Dear Fink Users,

I'm not entirely sure if this particular list is the right place
to ask the following questions. I'll give it a try. :-)

I'm installing a PHP based photo gallery solution which I plan
to run in Camino or Safari on my local Apache server. (My
version of Apache is 1.3.33. The PHP version is 4.4.4. All on
Mac OS X 10.4.9.)

The gallery solution recommends ImageMagick for thumbnail
features and requires gettext for eventual internationalization
of the application. The latter package is less crucial than the first.

I wonder if it's possible to make use of the ImageMagick and
gettext packages that's already installed in Fink's "sw" folder
- instead of installing them separately by other means or via
PHP bundles such as Marc Liyanage's (reportedly excellent) PHP 5
module build?

If the "sw" folder's ImageMagick and gettext packages could be
used here, what would be the specific steps to make Mac OS X's
standard PHP module aware of these packages? Do I need to run
any terminal commands to (re-)enable the packages? And would I
have to add anything specific in the "php.ini.default" file in
the "/private/etc/" folder?

Thanks for any help!

Best regards,

fink vs apple libjpeg!

I am trying to compile "taskjuggler" (outside of fink) but relying on fink's KDE suite of stuff. During compile, I see errors on libjpeg (installed via fink)

dyld: Symbol not found: __cg_jpeg_resync_to_restart
  Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/ImageIO
  Expected in: /sw/lib/libJPEG.dylib

(the errors accumulate from there)

What do I do to fix this?

TIA

Compiling KDE/amarok

Hi,

I have been trying to install amarok on OS X Tiger. Amarok is a music player
from KDE and so also needs to install a large part of the KDE libs, etc. There
is a fink package, so I did the obvious:

fink install amarok

It works away happily for about an hour, but finally fails with the error that
I include at the bottom of this message. I have tried repeating after doing a
'fink selfupdate' and 'fink update-all' with the same result. I use the rsync
version. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this.

thanks,
Cormac.

The really annoying part is that Apple's libJPEG isn't actually
similar to libjpeg, if I recall correctly.

One thing to try would be to see if the package configuration accepts
a definite path for libjpeg (e.g. something like --with-jpeg= ) rather
than attempting to autodetect it.
