Huge kde update + failure with gnome-vfs2-(ssl-)dev

MacOSX 10.4.6 + Xcode 2.2: Going through the normal "fink
selfupdate" --> "fink update-all" just two days ago I was presented with tons
of updates, mostly kde related, e.g.:

The following 207 (!!!) packages will be installed or updated:
akregator amor ark atlantik atlantikdesigner blinken cervisia kaddressbook
kalarm kalzium kanagram kandy kapptemplate karbon karm kasteroids katomic
kbabel kbackgammon kbattleship kblackbox kbounce kbruch kbugbuster
kcachegrind kcalc kcharselect kchart kcoloredit kcron kde-emoticons
 kde-extra-screensavers kde-extra-sounds kde-extra-themes kde-extra-wallpapers
kde-icons-classic kde-icons-hicolor kde-icons-ikons kde-icons-kids
kde-icons-locolor kde-icons-slick kde-kfile-image-plugins kde-panel-eyes
kde-panel-fifteen kde-panel-kmoon kde-panel-worldwatch
 kdeaccounts-plugin kdeaddons3 kdeaddons3-base
kdeaddons3-extra-kaddressbook-plugins ...

and with:

fink needs help picking an alternative to satisfy a virtual dependency. The
candidates:
(1) gnome-vfs2-dev: The GNOME virtual file-system libraries
(2) gnome-vfs2-ssl-dev: The GNOME virtual file-system libraries

Oh, well, after having left the system compile the packages for almost two
days, the process fails, in the end, with:
----------

This is not the error, this is the message that says there were errors
earlier. Could you post all the way back to the last gcc line in that
output?

You're right - sorry - I see now a conflict with cdparanoia dev library - from
what I remember, I think it comes from my need of xmms. Here is the whole
error (should I remove libcdparanoia and everything associated with it?!?):

Just remove ibcdparanoia0-dev. It's a header package, so nothing
should need it to run, and nothing should have a dependency on it.

oops-- that's "libcdparanoia0-dev", of course.

[GEO] 17 down, hundreds to go.. register now! (and get 10 kudos for free) *grins* this is not spam.

Hello :)

I am happy that 17 have agreed to be part of this experiment
(http://spoon.pkl.net/~backpane/geo.html). However I would like to have around
50 people before i investigate what database is best suited and how to segment
the data that it makes sense to use.

Submit your name and your Latitude/Longitude in a private mail and I will
happily add you!

For the USA:
geocoder.us
For Canada
geocoder.ca

For the rest of the world use Google Earth, your GPS, any other GIS service or
something like multimap.com or maporama.com
It is up to you how precise you want to be, but please at least supply
latitudes and longitudes that are unique to a city.

Thank you!

Join the club :)

Flash Animations in Konqueror?

I have successfully installed KDE 3.5.12 on my Os X but would like to
play flash animations in Konqueror. How does one link to the flash
player animation in Konqueror? I was able to do it without any
problems in Linux but can't seem to find the flash player plugin that
Konqueror recognises under XDarwin.

TIA, Kat

gettext install problems on 10.4

Hello,

This stumped the folks on Fink-beginners, so I'm hoping someone here
will have some ideas. I'm doing a new install of fink on an OS X
10.4 machine. It's a shared machine, so I'm installing fink into
/Users/myusername/sw which is an NFS share from another OS X 10.4
machine, the NFS server.

The initial install of fink and its dependencies, and the subsequent
fink selfupdate, go fine. This includes the stable version of
gettext. I need to use various unstable packages, though, so I add
unstable/main to the fink.conf file and run fink selfupdate again to
get the list of unstable packages. When I do this, of course, fink
updates itself and its dependencies to unstable versions, and herein
lies the problem. The unstable version of gettext, a fink
dependency, builds without a problem, but fails to install. Note
that I don't have libgettext3-dev (or libgettext* for that matter)
installed so that conflict isn't an issue -- nothing's installed at
this point except what fink itself installs.

(For anyone who read my messages on the other mailing list: I fixed
the timestamp errors I was seeing on the build (NFS servers had the
wrong times, that's now fixed), but the problem persists even after a
complete reinstallation of fink from scratch.)

Someone suggested installing libgettext3-shlibs, but that requires
gettext as a dependency and of course I can't install gettext.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions. The output of the failed
install is below; I included the beginning, the end, and the bit in

Problems trying to build KPhotoAlbum with Fink 10.4-transitional

I hope this doesn't get multiple-posted -- I already sent it with the
wrong "from" address. Hopefully the moderator will reject that one.

I'm trying to build KPhotoAlbum from SVN on OS X using the Xcode
2.2.1 toolchain and Fink 10.4-transitional.  I have successfully compiled
the KDE development tools and supporting libraries.

In order to get KPhotoAlbum to configure, I had to use gcc_select to
set the default compiler to 3.3.  Without that, I get a link error during
the configure script execution.  When I try to build it, I get link errors
at the end  of the build process, multiply-defined symbols.

Any idea what the problem could be?  Why is it that I need to use 3.3 for
building Qt stuff, even though fink 10.4-transitional normally needs
gcc 4.0?

Here's the end of the build output:
