Sandbox server: status (not possible to set up for >1 year?)

Hello,

1. What is the status with the Sandbox server? (1)

2. If it is not set up yet: 
Where are the problems? Can the volunteering (responsible) people please say something?

3. when we set up the old Sandbox server from private funding:
setting up + running was not much of a hassle (2)

Chat zum Thema Wikiversity

Heute, am Freitag dem 16. September, wird es um 20:00 einen Chat zum Thema 
Wikiversity/Wikiversität im allgemeinen und dem Antrag auf Förderung beim 
Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (Förderprogramm "eLearning-Dienste 
für die Wissenschaft") im speziellen geben. Das ganze wird im IRC stattfinden, 
Server ist irc.freenode.net, channel: #wikiversity.
Allgemeine Informationen zur Teilnahme am IRC gibt die Seite

Der Antrag wird auf dieser Seite erstellt werden:

Dort und auf der dazugehörigen Diskussionsseite gibt es weitere Informationen. 
Bis zum 1. Oktober muss die Projektskizze fertig sein, Abgabetermin ist der 4. 
Oktober. Das ist verdammt knapp, aber die Herren von der Wirtschaftsförderung 
Region Stuttgart sind zuversichtlich, also bin ich es auch.

Happy New Years, all!

I've actually gone through the signup process and am waiting to get the login details for the server. Unfortunately, since it's a new server, the provisioning department isn't open on the weekends.

While I do have a preference for what server OS we should run, I don't think it matters too much overall. It'll be some flavor of Unix, and the server won't be heavyweight enough to run VMs or other such goodies so we'll likely stick with something that has some flexibility in that regard.

at moment Gerald seems to be inaccessible (he doesn’t answer to my last mail on the list or a private mail, maybe he answers to my request on his talk page). It would be bad when the project goes back to sleep. Has someone an idea?

I'd like to make a new call for Sandbox projects.

I've done a bunch of preliminary research, and re-confirmed that WM.DE is willing to help fund to start the project. (Much thanks to them for this)

I'm going to BE BOLD here and state that I'd like to see the server up and ready for projects before the end of the month, perhaps sooner. There are some small details to work out, but I think we can get all of the process done in a tight timeframe.

I've got a few projects in mind for the Sandbox Server, but we need more then just those projects to make the sever a success. I also want to make sure each project has enough resources, both technical and non-technical.

To be clear: You don't have to be technical to propose a Sandbox project -- you just need a good idea. To get your idea deployed, you might need a technical person, and we're going to be trying to recruit a few of them. If you _are_ a technical person, it might help if you could recruit someone to be a non-techie to bounce ideas and get feedback from.

So, let's hear some ideas!! You can get feedback from this list, and if you have a formal proposal, please post a pointer to the wiki page on the this list.
