Norwegian Wikinews

I'm pleased to announce that the Norwegian Wikinews proposal has met the
qualifying requirements for volunteers
(http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikinews/Start_a_new_edition#Norwegian),
has developed the necessary documents and templates (and then some!
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/New_language_pre-launch#Norwegian_.28fellesnorsk.29),
and is now ready for the site to be created.

I will be asking the Developers to create the site at their convenience.

Hebrew Wikinews needs help with RSS

Hello,

Does anyone knows how to create an RSS feed like the EnWikinews has? We have just set up and I belive that an RSS feed will help us bring more users.
The page we will like to be set as a RSS feed is http://he.wikinews.org/wiki/תבנית:חדשות_חמות

thanks, Avichai

Hi,

As it stands now, you will need to provide a server on which a simple
perl script will run as a cron job. There is still no on-site way to
provide RSS (somebody correct me if I am wrong). I can adjust the
script for your needs.

It can't be done from the English server? Maybe you can put our "code" inside the English one.
Any advices will be welcome.

It's not on the English server either, but a third party server. One
of the users allowed us to use his personal server for this. I'll talk
to him and see if we can extend the script, but I can't promise
anything.

SEARCHING Wikinews stories

Question:

Why isn't wikinews searched when I conduct a Google News search?

That is a question you have to ask Google.

Google have agreed to include Wikinews when various people have requested
it, but I gather they then took it off the search again because they were
concerned about how it might change after they'd picked it up. I think
you'll find a discussion about it in the Watercooler archives (best to
search through Google!)

Re: SEARCHING Wikinews stories

Thats a good question. I think one of the reasons was the problems with vandalism, and published vs non-published articles. However this was before I came to wikinews so I probally shouldn't be answering this question. (Vaugly remember something at the water cooler when I first came.)

They're afraid of getting penis pictures on their frontpage. They'll
include us if we give them a feed of stable versions that cannot have
been vandalized at the time their spider picks them up.
