[wikimedia-pt] Fwd: WMF Mission Activities Grant Approved - PT

Caros,

Felizmente, valeu a espera!

É caso a averiguar.

Quer dizer algo? Que a Wikimedia Portugal foi aprovada formalmente? Os estatutos aprovados?

Hi there.  I belong to the group that has been working on the future Wikimedia Portugal chapter.

We recently came to know about the WMF grants [1], and citing that page:

"If your chapter is still in development, you can still apply for funds (especially when they are relevant to getting your chapter off the ground), and we will request input from the chapters committee to help us assess whether your chapter is ready to absorb them."

Unfortunately, we only found about this earlier this week, so we'll have to request some urgency in this issue, since the deadline is only 2 days away.

We have just finished the translation of the bylaws to English [2] and thus we want to know if it is possible for us to have the ChapCom's assessment and apply for the grant before April 21.

Thanks in advance,
Waldir Pimenta, from the WMP working group

Thanks. I'll forward this to the chapter's mailing list. We already started the process of aquisition of official status as a legal organization in Portugal. We'll keep you posted on the news regarding this.

There are two maillists relevant for Chapter board members
-Chapter list where all members of the board from all chapters are included and only them. Here can be found reports from chapters general questions re chapter business and some specific chapters issue like election of chapter seats to the Board.. Please send a list of all you board members with E.-mailadresses to valdelli-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org, moderator of list and wiki

CHAPTER AGREEMENT,; TRADEMARK USE; FUNDRAISING, GRANTS

After becoming approved by the Board and you being operative, the next step would be to sign a Chapter agreement to regulate basics. Unfortunately this agreement is still in a discussion phase so no agreement exists today to be signed.

Basically what will be regulated i that the Chapters are not allowed to use the Trademark for business purposes or to make explicit  business deals based on you utilizing the strength of the Wikipedia name etc. You are allowed to use the Trademark to identify yourself. For further discussion re the use of the trademark, please contact Mike Goodwin at the Foundation, mgodwin-AeOJrEpdGNcpi3HaZ6Sa4g@public.gmane.orgg. For proper business proposals you shoulkd discuss these with Kul kwadhwa <at> wikimedia.org.

As a chapter you can be part of the general fundraising efforts, usually starting in November. It can be tough get this in place in a short time and it could be proposed you follow this issue on the maillist first. If you want to discuss it, the contact otherwise is Rand rmontoya-AeOJrEpdGNeGglJvpFV4uA@public.gmane.org

As you are probably aware of there is an opportunity for chapter to apply for grants for projects, with a focus on helping new chapter to get going, see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_chapters/WMF_grants (closed for 2009-2010 now)
