The response to the OP would have led the OP to believe that without modifying mediawiki there was absolutely no way to get such a list, when in fact there is.

Yes, this sort of Special Page (even without the editing feature) would seem to be a useful standard feature for making an up-to-date listing of prefixes available to users. And I had overlooked that users could have been pulling it from the API. Thanks to you both, Jim

Perhaps try get conseus for it to be enabled on one of the WMF wikis (for example: en.wiki), once consenus has been archieved send onto bugzilla where it will get a security reviewed, committed to WMF SVN (if its not already), security review fixes + patches fixed, and then enabled. Once it is enabled on one and showen to be working it would be alot easier to get consenus for it to be pushed out for all WMF installs.

Hi! I'm supposed to turn an existing MVC style site, about 20000 pages, into a mediawiki. I am hoping I can just do some straight forward writing of data into the SQL database. But before I bother to investigate, I thought it worthwhile to ask here about possible docs or advice on this, since the MW db diagram from the site is totally meaningless/useless to me -- I would rather just hack away at whatever tables I can find, etc. -- and saw nothing obvious on line. Anyway, I understand the MW mark-up and would really really like to just take the existing db, translate it into MW pages, and store it appropriately. Any thoughts are appreciated.
