Testimonials of corporate MediaWiki users

I'm working on a list of testimonials of corporate users of MediaWiki.
The first one, from Novell, can be seen at:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Sites_using_MediaWiki/corporate

I've contacted most of the other companies in the list (I haven't
found someone to talk to at AOL yet, which was listed as a MediaWiki
user, hence I have removed it pending verification). I don't expect
many responses, but if we get 3-4 testimonials in the end, I'll
already be happy.

If your company uses MediaWiki, please send me a quick e-mail, or feel
free to post a testimonial publicly. What I'm looking for are one
paragraph summaries of how different companies are using the software,
in addition to brief company profiles. Extensive case studies would
also be cool, of course, if you're happy to put them under the GFDL.

Cheers,

Erik

Re: Testimonials of corporate MediaWiki users

Hello Erik, I'm not sure if were either big or corporate enough, but
let's see:

  We at FZI (http://www.fzi.de) use MediaWiki extensively. It is our
  intranet and links to all other relevant sites. Since we use the
  Semantic MediaWiki (http://wiki.ontoworld.org) extension, we also
  use it as our central staff register. Address lists and such are
  generated automatically by embedded queries. We manage our weekly
  research meeting, regulations, technical explanations, holidays,
  travels, ideas, special interest groups, everything. As we are in
  close contact to the institute at AIFB
  (http://aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de), that resides at a different
  location, it's really helpful to have this shared information space.

  Our stats: There have been a total of 10,535 page views, and 2,570
  page edits since the wiki was setup. That comes to 1.01 average
  edits per page, and 4.10 views per edit. There are 70 registered
  users, of which 7 (or 10.00%) are administrators (see
  Project:Administrators).

Kind regards,

  Max Völkel

Re: Testimonials of corporate MediaWiki users

Hi Max,

FZI ist nicht for-profit, oder? Ich mache eine separate Liste für
"Institutions".

Kannst Du mir ein kurzes (ca. 1 Absatz), englichsprachiges Profil von
FZI schicken, und vielleicht noch ein bisschen zu Deiner Person?

Dank & Gruß

Don't forget Intel.

Perhaps the text of the tesimonials would make a nice montage
background for a poster listing the 'institutional wiki use' sessions
at Wikimania...

It appears that your attachment hasn't come through to the mailing
list. Or maybe I misunderstood and the patch would go on bug 1924,
but I can't see it there either. It really ought to go there. If you
can take a moment to donate it, I'm sure one of the guys there could
use it.  =)

smtp server MediaWiki

Hallo!

laeuft. Kann man den verwenden? Es waer super wenn jemand eine Idee
haette.

Danke schon mal im Voraus.

Viele Gruesse,
Mei

I edited MediaWiki:Common.css to add this:

/* This resolves an issue with CSS not working correctly. It must be
the first entry. */
thisneverworks {
}

a.new {
 color: #AABBCC !important;
}

http://jrandomhacker.info/MediaWiki:Common.css#Custom_link_colour

I played a bit more to try to make new links look like normal text. I
got it working, but the way I did it means that new links will be
black.. which may not work when the text is supposed to be some other
colour.

How do I change the default name of a namespace?

I want to change the default name of the "Image" namespace to something like "File"... as I find this more
consistent with our use of the namespace now, when we begin to upload other kind of files than images.

What is the best way to go around making this change?
Will I have to go through the Sisyfos task of changing all the links pointing to [[Image:filename.jpg]]'s
etc. ?

Best wishes,
Morten :-)

You can just change the namespace name in languages/Language.php, or
whatever langauge you use.

You can run a bot instead, and you can preserve the "Image" namespace
name as a "redirect" to the "File" namespace instead of changing it
completely. To preserve it, just change the namespace name in
languages/Language.php.

(I assume you refer to your local installation, not the whole software.)
