WMF Mission Activities Grant Approved -UK

I'm very happy to share the fantastic news that our application for a £5,000 grant from the Wikimedia Foundation has been approved in full.

More details of our bid are given at http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Initiatives/Bid

This grant will be a great help in kick starting the chapter's activities. By taking us over the £5,000 threshold it also simplifies our application for charitable status.

Regards,

Andrew Turvey
Secretary

Excellent! That's very generous of them. Now we need to spend it!

I've just heard back from them and our MoA and AoA is sufficient proof of non-profitability. They're
starting the transfer process next week!

I thought non-profitability was a requirement for recognition as a
chapter, so I'm surprised they wanted to check that again. Our
governing documents are very explicit about the fact, so it's not
surprising that they were sufficient (there is no other proof we could
offer, any kind of charitable status would just mean that the
authorities had looked at our governing documents and seen the same
statements of non-profitability).

Speakers

A few opportunities are coming up for members who may be willing to speak on behalf of the chapter in lunchtime meetings, conferences etc or as interviewees. We will sometimes, but not always, be able to pay for travel and subsistence expenses.

This is a great way of helping the chapter spread the word about the things we do and it also gives you good exposure in public speaking and raises your profile among media circles.

If you are interested in volunteering for this, please could you email me the following details:

- what experience you have in public speaking, if any
- what experience you have with Wikimedia projects, including any roles such as administrator
- what is your availability (location/times)
- what kind of events you would like to help with
- how you would like to be contacted

I will be putting these details (minus the contact details) on the wiki at uk.wikimedia.org/Speakers - if you want it to be kept confidential please let me know and I will put it on board.wikimedia.org/Speakers instead.

Alternatively please feel free to add yourself to the wiki directly.

Regards,

Andrew
