Who would you like to see at the AGM?

Now that we have our bank account open, we are putting the finishing touches to the agenda for the AGM. We have
previous talked about inviting an interesting speaker/s to pull the crowds, as it were, and inspire our
activities for the year ahead.

What are you ideas for people you'd like to hear? Ideas previously discussed include:

- Prominent open source community people - Linux/Creative Commons?
- Other people who have set up successful chapters - e.g. Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland
- People involved in Wikimedia things here - e.g. David on media relations or Andrew on Wikipedia for Schools

Please let us know.

Things that can be organised quickly! The conference idea will start
properly next year. If you can find someone that wants to give a short
talk, it would be nice to have something a little less dry than voting
on rather technical resolutions! If you want to find someone quickly,
it's probably best to look within the Wikimedia community.

How about someone affiliated with the Open Knowledge Foundation such
as Rufus Pollock? Would be interesting to hear about the wider open
knowledge movement in the UK.

When's the best date for the AGM?

All,

When's the best date for everyone for the AGM? We've pinned it down
to one of the 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th of April, or the 2nd or 3rd May,
but we need your help picking the best one of those, i.e. the one
that the most people can make.

Please let us know by filling out the following doodle:

Thanks,
Mike Peel

AGM Resolutions

We're hoping to make the business side of the AGM as quick as
possible, but does anyone have any resolutions they would like to be
put to the meeting?

At the moment the resolutions are:

1. Setting the maximum number of Directors to seven
2. Appointing those people elected under the Election Rules as
directors
3. Setting the Membership fee to £12 per year and £6 for concessions
4. Entrenchment of Election Rules
5. Adoption of Membership Rules
6. Entrenchment of the Chapter Agreement

(entrenchment is a legal term which means a future Board would be
unable to repeal or revise them without the permission of the
membership)

Members will be able to vote by email for these if they prefer, or in
person at the AGM. Full details are set out at
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetings/2009_AGM/Resolutions.

Also, does anyone want to propose any amendment to any of these
resolutions?

Please let me know if you have anything you would like to raise.

regards,

Andrew Turvey

Re: When's the best date for the AGM?

All,

I forgot to say: the deadline for completing this is the end of the
day on Wednesday (tomorrow), as we want to start booking the location
asap.

Thanks,
Mike

Wikimania bid 2010 - International Travel

The following sections need work done:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2010/Bids/Oxford#International_Travel
This includes information on airports, ferries, channel tunnel
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2010/Bids/Oxford#Customs_and_attitudes
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2010/Bids/Oxford#Cost_of_living
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2010/Bids/Oxford#Safety_and_Security
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2010/Bids/Oxford#Places_of_worship
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2010/Bids/Oxford#Local_transportation
Bus maps needed and more information

There is alot of work that needs doing and we are falling behind the other bids. If you
want this to happen you need to do something about it. I know we are all busy but we cannot all
expect someone else to do the work because it will never get done. You dont need to live in oxford
to be able to add information.

Where does the "registered charity" status and hence the application fit?

At the AGM, or later?

We can't register with the Charity Commission until we have an annual
income over £5000. The board are currently in contact with HMRC with
regard to getting charitable status for tax purposes, which will
hopefully be sorted soon.
