Wiki Wednesday in London (June 2007)

The next Wiki Wednesday in London will be different in several respects.

http://www.eu.socialtext.net/wikiwed/index.cgi?london_wikiwed_6_june_2007

First and foremost, it will in South London.

Secondly, there will be two main presentations, followed by short
talks from anybody who wishes to speak. David Terrar is the master
of all again.

1) Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 - Microsoft speaker TBA

2) The cultural effects of using wiki technology in organisations - speaker TBA

SharePoint has been discussed and presented at previous meetings,
hence the first item. The second comes from a question at the
previous meetings, but I believe the questioner might have asked
about cultural aspects in general, whether inside an organization or
not. The name Wiki Wednesday is somewhat of a misnomer, in that all
types of CSCW and related software technologies are discussed (e.g.
online shared spreadsheets).

Digitizing of the Codex Sinaiticus (was: [WikiFR-l] Numérisation du Codex Sinaiticus)

This French user points out this action of the British Library. Old
email but might be more appropriate for Wikimedia UK or Wikimedia
Deutschland?

I could think of a joint action Wikimedia UK/Wikimedia Deutschland
since the manuscript is in both countries. This, in any case, seems to
be a very interesting project to be part of, if at all possible.

Best,

Delphine

Bonjour,

Assistance needed building press release email list for the UK

There's a press release going out for Tuesday for a UK organisation
working with WMF. So the organisation asked me about addresses to
email it to. *ahem* guess who's so used to doing press reactively that
he's never actually gathered a press release email list.

We have addresses for the major (and many minor) newspapers, but not
for computer/internet press. So far I have the Inquirer
(press.releases[AT]theinquirer.net) and the Register
(news[AT]theregister.co.uk). I welcome your assistance with other
suitable press addresses.

It would probably be a good idea for WMF to get into the habit of
proactive press releases, as we do, after all, have an agenda to push
(free content, education, wikis, the stuff in the mission statements
of WMF and WMUK). So this'll be useful far and wide.

Note that no-one here has any money for media directories ...

- d.

Re: Assistance needed building press release email list for the UK

ComProj has a nice, large database we call the presslist of press
contact details including e-mail addresses.

Is that what you are looking for?

If so, I can send you a copy.

Thanks,

Sean

Membership

I am interested in becoming a member of the Wikimedia UK chapter, I am
unable to find any information regarding becoming a member (except the
discussion regarding the cost). Also is there any age limit to
becoming a member? Thanks.
