[PloneDavis-Discuss] UCD Plone Skin Tweak

A couple of questions to specifically to Charles and generally to
everyone else.

I just received a request from our publicity department about a couple
of things. As you can see here: music.ucdavis.edu; we used a banner
image in place of the the department name and logo. I think some others
on campus have done this as well. The question presented to me is that
is there a way to have a different banner appear for a specific page.
My people want to have a page that somewhat has it's own identity but
still have navigation and feel of our site. In other words, a page that
has it's own banner but not a completely different plone site. Also,
they would want to turn off the left nav column for certain pages as
well. How would I do this? Thanks ahead of time for help.

I could use opinions on the following:

1) Shall we set a "regular" meeting date, rather than the floating
one we currently have? That way we could all plan on say the 3rd
Wednesday or Thursday of the month at lunchtime? Let me know your
preferences.

2) The UCDPloneSkin doesn't run under Plone 3 (unless Jason pulled a
rabbit out of his hat and forgot to tell me). How about we do a mini-
sprint to upgrade the skin, instead of our regular meeting for June?
A lot of people are on vacation, etc. so I'm not sure how much
interest we'll have in the regular meeting anyway. All are invited,
since skinning for Plone 3 is, ummm, different. If we have
Sacramento folks, maybe you've got something you need to skin? If
this is okay with everyone, I was thinking June 25 or 26. We can use
Sproul or the Center for Mind and Brain.

3) Joel Burton seems to be back in email contact. Is there any
interest in a Plone 3 three-day workshop? These are always a pain
for the organizers, but invaluable for the attendees. I'm guessing
that cost will be in the $400 per/person range. Please be aware
that the first 3 people to RSVP are the organizing
committee . . . :-) Just kidding!

So let me know what you'd like to do.

If the sprint doesn't work for this month, we can delay that until a
better time. In which case we need a speaker for the regular
meeting. Please let me know if you'd like to present.

1) I am easy, it is summer.
2) Sounds cool, I am happy to help, but it doesn't do anything specific for
my needs.
3) I'd like to find someone to pay for me too ;)

Hi Huy,

You could dive into the code and add a tal condition. But here's an

Howdy-

1. Yes, I'd prefer to have a regular meeting scheduled. Tuesdays and Thursdays are best for me (and for many other campus IT folks, since most of the monthly meetings are on Mondays and Wednesdays).

2. I think we absolutely need to have a version of UCDPloneSkin for Plone 3, and I could really use some dedicated time to learn how to do Plone 3 skinning. July would be better for me than June.

3. I would certainly send at least two people (Chris Brick and myself) if we could get the cost to $400/person.

Best,

Jeremy.

Re: [PloneDavis-Discuss] [Fwd: Re: UCD Plone Skin Tweak]

Charles' suggestion for the banner worked. I placed a modified version
of "dept_name.pt" that overrode the one from UCDPloneSkin in the
appropriate folder. As for removing the the left nav, I found, on
plone.org, that to do what I needed, I just had to add a left_slots of
type lines to the properties of a folder and left the contents empty.
This will trickle down to the child folders but that works for me.

Regular meetings would be great. Wednesdays would be fine with me.
Thursday noons would (ironically) sometimes conflict with the Plone
board.

I'd love to participate in a Plone 3 skin sprint. Veda Williams and a
theming crew have been developing a set of sample Plone 3 skins and
best practices that we can scavenge ideas from, so this is getting to
be ground well-trodden.

I'd be unlikely to take Joel's course, but I know he'd do a great job.
I'd nearly certainly want to hold another party if he's in town.

1. Sure I'm free to meet up, any day but Friday is usually good for me.

2. I agree, I'd attend the sprint, at least to get an idea of how
other people tackle skinning Plone. July is also better for me than
June. =)

3. I just attended the 2-day bootcamp at the Symposium recently, does
anyone know how Joel's classes differ, or if he'll go more into
skinning at the 3-day one?

1) Regular meetings sound good.
2) Yes. Sprint is good. July.
3) Joel rocks. Yes please. I can help coordinate or shame others into
it as necessary.
