Streaming PloneCon vids and other news

Streaming video from PloneCon is now up:

http://plone.org/events/conferences/seattle-2006/presentations/session-videos/

You can see most of the conference from there.

Also, check out Rob's Camp5 artwork:

http://trizpug.org

Registration will open *very* soon. That is, within days.

Advanced PyCamp took a hit last month. Google announced their Web
Services API was removed from service. The first three units of PyCamp
were based on it. They will have to be redone. Considering all the work
we have with Camp5 going on at the moment, that isn't so bad. Also, the
day Google removed the service was the very day Advanced PyCamp would
have started if we had kept to the original Dec 18-22 schedule. So that
would have been *very* bad for us. Sometimes we get lucky.

The site has a catastrophic hardward failure yesterday. It is fixed and
back up now.

Cheers, Chris

Thanks for taking care of that, Chris!

Speakers for January Meeting

Well, my efforts to blackmail my fellow cronies into presenting at this month's meeting have failed so I'm wondering if anyone has something that they'd like to present to the group. I'm sure there will be some discussion about the upcoming Camp Five and BBQ Sprint, but I'm hoping that one of our illustrious members has a presentation they'd like to whip up for the 23rd.

Are there any topics that anyone would like to toss out for ideas?

Have a great weekend,

Mike

If you get no other takers, or rather, if we get a lot of other takers,
I also have a five minute presentation on Clouseau (python debug prompt
within Plone by Andy McKay) that didn't get made at the last meeting due
to projector issues.

I also could be persuaded to give a longer presentation on either
generators or decorators.

I've learned a few stupid Plone tricks recently, any of which would make a decent short demonstration:

- an AJAX-powered homepage based on Plone's quick-search, showing filtered document results

- a corporate e-card site with email notification, Flash cards, private editing, and a public domain for display

- using CMFEditions to auto-save versioned data, then showing its evolution in a concise table using ZPT

- centralized user management across multiple Plone sites, using SSL and the new AjaxProxy product

- using ClockServer to trigger periodic tasks in Zope without cron

- securing a Plone site with SSL, SessionCrumbler, and expiring sessions

If any of these would be useful or interesting to others, please let me know.

We did it!!  I've reached my fundraising goal in the fight against blood cancers, and I've completed our 100 mi. ride at Lake Tahoe!

Thanks so much to all of you who've supported me throughout the training and the fundraising!  Without your help, I never would have been able to do it.
