Re: Re: External HDD

Thanks. Could you please let me know the brand (company's name) for your cypress
chip enclosure?

Does anyone know whether the shintaro enclosures (from shintaro.com.au or
mmt.com.au) are supported by linux USB or not?

Thanks.

nvidia

I know I might get bagged for this but If you dont mind tainting your kernel
and you run with a nvidia graphics board, their newish driver v6111 works a
treat.. A lot better than their v6106......

Re: nvidia

I have never had any problems with the nVidia kernel drivers, but this driver is sure much better than the support comparability with the same video card on Windoze.

the gfx card I'm running is a nVidia  GV-NX59128D PCIe-X

OptusNet Connection.

Hi All,

I have Debian R3 and are using pppconfig to connect to OptusNet prepaid
dialup.

I can 'pon OptusNet, 'ping www.optusnet.com.au' OK.

But I am unable to 'ping www.dse.com.au'.

The address is returned but no reply from DSE.

What have I missed?

Thanks in advance.

Yours Sincerely
Stepehn Brown

Looks like DSE don't return ping replies. Try www.google.com that usually
pings OK.

Probably nothing... the firewall from DSE could be absorbing your ping
requests. Try pinging www.yahoo.com.au, www.gentoo.org, and
www.microsoft.com. Yahoo and Gentoo should return your pings,
Microsoft won't.

Re: OptusNet Connection.

Is your /etc/resolve file loaded with the correct information?

If your running a "internal" DNS is the "root.cache" file updated? (I have had this a few times when the root.ca file wasn't updating for some reason.

Is your firewall not configuring the connection IP correctly?

User needs help

I received a phone call from a user who just moved to Melbourne

His name is Michael Campbell.

Next meeting he will be brining along a "Big SCSI based server" which he
has been having trouble installing a distro on (he wants Debian or Gento
but does not have a copy available) and would appreciate some help
getting it set up. is anyone willing to help him? He cannot ask on list
as he has no internet access. He also would like some help queuing
emails through exim (has a laptop which he would like to be able to plug
in and have send all emails when a connection is present)

I can't contact him, so that is all I can tell you

I can bring Gentoo along - downloaded the latest install set the other
day. The LiveCD is pretty good at autodetecting hardware.
