organising committee elections

I believe the elections occurred last week, whilst i was away.
Perhaps I have missed an email somewhere along in the line, in which
case I apologise, but is it possible to know the result?

2nd Event Proposal

For much of the last year the LUG has talked about running regular
programming sessions for project stuff. This has been called
BUGFLUG/XING/QING/YING and has variously run on Monday afternoon, and
Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

I had optimistically hoped that this kind of thing could run in
parallel to gaming on fridays, but its not really been
happening.Consequently I propose that we start running saturday night
QING again. Try and get stuff done on projects. Thoughts?

I think a problem we have now that we hold gaming in DCS (our primary
location for *ING) is that it's too easy for us to get distracted and
start playing games (especially when running alongside gaming). This
means that some people will come along hoping to do something of some
interest or use to the world and find a load of WUGLUG people shouting
at each other over DotA/UT/Proball[0].

We also have an issue that many people won't want to give both their
Friday and Saturday nights to CompSoc events and so will only go to one
or the other. If people have to go to gaming because they have
technical duties to perform, we make it very difficult for them...

One solution might be to run XING at the same time as gaming but in the
other DCS room, so we don't have the distractions of gaming unless we
make the conscious decision to switch rooms. Ideally, gaming would
switch rooms so we could make use of the whiteboard in CS0.01...

To summarise, I agree that we need to get these events running again,
but I'm not convinced that Saturday night is the time to do it.

Agreed.

I'm inclined to agree here, I would rather not have saturday taken
over, it was just mooted as an idea time.

I'd rather not have this as a 'split the society' thing, I think we've
had enough of that already.

Well, the only reason I was making suggestions which involved splitting
with gaming was that I assumed that a QING wouldn't have gaming at the
same time. TBH, I don't think that just doing it in the other room is
that big of a deal, especially if we're going to be going into the
gaming room whenever we want to use the whiteboard...

WUGLUG meeting room change

The room for the WUGLUG meetings on Wednesdays is no longer in the
learning grid but is now in A0.23, which is a small lecture theatre in
social studies.

This week we have Benji talking about the openSUSE build service.

This event will be happening at 7:00pm. A map to the Social Studies
cafe can be found at (http://brad.uwcs.co.uk/files/central.jpg),
someone will be there to guide people to A0.23. Someone will also be at
the learning grid in case you get really lost.

Publicity

This weeks talk on c++ by sadiq/faux is probably of quite general
interest. It might be a nice idea if some flyers were spread around
dcs/maths/eng on the subject. If a general flyer was made then you
could probably get away with just changing the topic/picture or
something for each week.
