8.04 updated network manager equals no PAL 2.0

Running Ubuntu 9.04 remix I could not connect to PAL 2.0 useing the
network manager as discribed on the Purdue Linux Group's Airlink
page. So I down graded with the install disk that came with my Dell
Mini 9 back to 8.04. I could now connect to PAL 2.0 with the steps
found on P.L.U.G . 's page Then later that month software update
gave me an updated network manager simular to the look of 9.04's
network manager and with simular results for PAL 2.0 connecting

symptoms:
PAL2.0 instructions are found and immediatly connected too
i delete instructions as a connection and try connect to PAL2.0
This procedure worked when done and shown to be by an ITAP person in
the ITAP helproom (useing 9,04) in the basement of Stewart, but could
not be duplicated anywhere else even after I went back and had her
show me again. hope i discribed my problem well enough. thanks for
your time.

I have a wired problem with VPN

I use vpnclient to connect. After login, I can visit any website
except all with "purdue.edu". I can't ping www.purdue.edu and its IP
address. After disconnect, everything is all right. I'm in campus now
but I want to travel these days. Does anyone have advice or experience
with this?

Slackware and PAL2.0

Hi,
Is there any of you here using Slackware? And if yes, were you able
to connect to PAL2.0 with it? I've been struggling with it for a week,
trying all kind of instruction, and still fail to do that. I have
tried Shuey's instruction as well as the one about Wicd I found here.
It seems to me that the moment they try to do with the certificate,
something went wrong. Can any of you help me on this?

Thanks a lot.

Treasurer/Vice President Selected

Casey Drummer will be filling the Treasurer/Vice President role for
PLUG. Casey is a freshmen in CS and I think he'll be a good fit for
helping lead the club. Best of luck to Casey and John Michael in
leading the club from here on out.

you are interested in an officer position and were not able to attend
the meeting last night please contact one of the officers or the

Elections

It's getting to be that time of the school year. We're going to try
and hold elections for PLUG officers in the next two weeks and I was
hoping to get some feedback on what dates work best for everyone
interested. I figure we want to avoid Thursday and Friday due to
weekend activities.

Here are some date choices I've come up with:

Tuesday April 14th
Wednesday April 15th
Tuesday April 21st
Wednesday April 22nd

The positions up for election are the following:

President
Vice-President
Treasurer

This is a great opportunity to gain some leadership experience that
you can put on your resume, so don't miss out if you are at all
interested.

Thanks,
Erik Nelson
President

Ubuntu firewall settings

Recently I started using the wicd network manager to connect to PAL
2.0 and it works fantastic

But Now i am facing a new problem"

When the wireless network is secured, all websites open well in the
firefox browser. Example (http://www.lemurproject.org/doxygen/lemur/
html/index.html)

The websites i am talking about are sourceforget nets which probably
are not the "secure" websites

However these websites are not opened anymore when I am on a unsecured
wireless network.

all the gmail, secured university webpages are accessible and open
well

Guesses:
Firewall settings, but I dont know how to add a webpage as a secure/
trusted webpage so that even from the unsecured wireless network i can
access these

WICD manager settings, the settings in there do not allow me to access
webpages that are not trusted

Anybody has any idea?

Selling my OLPC XO Laptop

Hey all...just thought I'd see if anyone here locally was interested
in an XO laptop from the original G1G1 program from OLPC. It's a sweet
machine, but I've never had much time to mess around with it and I'm
buying a house so I need the money.

I did apply for a developer key and unlocked the machine so any distro
can be installed if you don't like Fedora with Sugar UI on top. It has
been updated with the current stable release and a soon to be released
firmware. I'm also including a 2GB Kingston Elite Pro SD card and a
stylus pen (these don't come with it originally). I have all of the
original packaging.

I also did diagnose an issue with the circuitry on the original
battery and bought a replacement last November, so that's pretty much
brand new...I've tested that it works and charges properly, but never
did much with the machine after that.

I'm asking for $150 and have posted pictures that I took of it here:

Anyway, just thought someone might be interested...if not I'll be
putting it on eBay soon. Let me know if you have any questions.
