I have my staging environment where I can do my testing.

Thank you for reminding me. ;-)

Re: tagalog unicode fonts on karmic koala

err... I am actually using tl_PH (or fil_PH) UTF-8 that cause the Sans
font alias to grab latin mappings of the Alibata font.

Or does anyone have these fonts *without* the latin mappins?

Thanks,

Karmic Koala weird behavior

Hi,

Just upgraded Kubuntu Jaunty to Karmic this morning. After upgrading, I noticed that shutdown was very
fast. Now, that would be cool but it seems that the file systems are not being unmounted cleanly. There
seems to be some fsck checks everytime I boot up. And sometimes, when I do a reboot or poweroff, there are a
lot of beeps.

I'm using Kubuntu Karmic Koala (upgraded from Jaunty) 64-bit on AMD64.

Or maybe I should try a clean install. If ever, this is the first time a distro upgrade failed. And I just
installed Jaunty on the machine a little bit more than 1 month ago.

Re: Karmic Koala weird behavior

I actually did a clean install because the burner apps are acting
weird. One thing t watch out is that using the manual partitioner will
always format your /home regardless if you want it otherwise so back
everything up.

I was using the 64-bit CD installer, if it was any help.

ciao!

Hmm... I guess I'll try to install on a spare hard drive first to find out if the problem can be reproduced on a
clean install. I'll try that later.

Anyone else having problems after doing a distro upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic?

let me clear something up because i re-read my response again and
misinterpreted it. :)

the CD/DVD burning app problem was with Jaunty, and I have some
disconnection problems so I really wanted to start with a clean slate.

:)

ciao!

Re: Karmic Koala weird behavior

yes but on Karmic's defense I was not caught unaware. During the step
when I re-used and re-labeled the partitions I can see that the /home
partition's format checkbox was checked but not modifiable. I could
have halted the installation right there but I don't have important
data on my $HOME to warrant doing a separate backup. Except for
application settings, I keep all of my data in a separate partition.

ciao!

Re: Karmic Koala weird behavior

Well, thanks for the heads up. I used to do the same but got lazy so i
keep my other data in my home directory as well.

any chance you're somewhere close in Manila and could be bothered for
a copy of karmic 64-bit? Someone suggested i wait for the release
party on friday or i could amuse myself with my super slow 3g
connection and maybe finish it by tuesday or wednesday. :(

Sure. I work in Mandaluyong (near Robinson's Pioneer) so we can either
meet up or I can have it delivered to you via courier (at your own
cost). I live in Binangonan so the earliest I can give/ship this would
be on Tuesday. Note that I only have the 700MB CD installer (I also
have the 386 version for my netbook).

The same goes for any other takers , but let me know 1 day in advance
as I would only be able to burn the copy when I get home at night.

ciao!
