Either no one is asking/replying or something is wrong.

Re: test mail

People are just probably (hopefully) busy with their weekend plans.  Me, I'm at the office.

Something is right. People are finally doing RTFM first, ask
questions later. ;-)

Ubuntu 8.04.1 on the MSI Wind Umpc

I successfully booted Ubuntu 8.04.1 on my daughter's MSI Wind, using a USB stick, since the Wind has no
CD/DVD drive. An account of this experiment is given in my blog:

http://blog.360.yahoo.com/prmanalastas?cq=1&p=279

If you are thinking of getting the MSI Wind, or the Asus Eee PC 1000, this should give you an intro to what you
need to get Ubuntu running on these umpcs.

Enjoy!

Pablo M.

acer aspire one X window does not load properly

Hi:

My mom-in-law bought an Acer Aspire One. It happened though that it
now doesn't load X properly - what we see now is a black screen with
the X cursor but no XFCE loading up. Any idea how to fix this? Or at
least get the Aspire One to boot to runlevel 1?

Paolo

Re: Ubuntu 8.04.1 on the MSI Wind Umpc

I really like the Acer Aspire One. It's cheaper than the Eee 1000,
MUCH cheaper than the HP MiniNote (which has a crappy Via chip) and
IMHO has the best form factor.

I'm trying to trawl around for a reason to buy an Aspire One.... slots
in above the smartphones, but below the 12" notebooks.

Re: Ubuntu 8.04.1 on the MSI Wind Umpc

The downside to the Acer Aspire One is its pathetic battery life. In a benchmark it had only about 121 minutes of battery life while the Asus eeePC 901 lasted about five hours. :P
