[LINUX.ORG.MT] Membership, Website Bugs and other rants

Hbieb,

There still seems to be no link form the website to the Membership
form.(or I am Brain Dead, which is very possible)
Anyway, does it make sense to suggest linking the Website Profile to the
membership database. (maybe by hacking this module
http://drupal.org/project/legal to make it suit our needs?)

Which brings me to the bug. the link to drupal at the bottom has 4 w
(wwww.drupal.org)!

BTW I was reading the minutes; isn't ssh access to a live server very
dangerous, or is Raphel going to do some vmaware jailing magic? And how
about managing the mirror front page using a module like
http://drupal.org/project/filebrowser

I also am of the very much convinced, even more so now that I have read
the minutes, that Mediterranean Penguins prefer the spirit from the
grape than that from barley, which is favoured by the penguins across
the ocean. To this effect I recommend a survey be carried out, using
open source internet enabled tools (also known as online polls) like this:

x'tixrob:
a. inbid
b. birra
c. ilma
d. mormok tat-3 barrels

Sahha
Philip.

Re: [LINUX.ORG.MT] Membership, Website Bugs and other rants

Hi Philip,

Yep, still no link. Currently the only way to get decent information on
joining the LUG is at http://www.linux.org.mt/join

The reason for this is that we are still trying to find a way to
integrate all the disparate user databases we have... There's the CMS,
membership form, forum (upcoming), wiki and mailing list.

Raphael and I are investigating Drupal modules for each of the above,
which would automatically integrate everything. In the mean time, if
anyone knows of drupal modules which do just this, or perhaps knows a
better way to integrate, please shout it out!

Keith
P.S: I'm a wine guy myself, with quite a liking to Whisky too. I would
add Whisky and Vodka to the poll.

Re: [LINUX.ORG.MT] Membership, Website Bugs and other rants

Well, thanks for that, I want to send it to 2 potential members I met recently.

Anyway to be ethnically valid the poll would have to include wiksy not whisky

I'm not sure i'll have the time from now till xmass, but I'll try to scrounge around the drupal extentions list to find what is needed. I assume that for the forum you would want to go with phpBB and for the wiki with Mediawiki, or would you rather use a pure drupal module?

Re: [LINUX.ORG.MT] Membership, Website Bugs and other rants

I would basically use something that works. Have experience with both
mediawiki and phpBB. What interests me is that they integrate well
from a access credentials point of view.

[LINUX.ORG.MT] IP6 and christmas

Guys,

I just happend on the the website of the malta ip6 taskforce
[http://www.mt.ipv6tf.org/aboutus/]
Anyone notice how civil society is completely left out from the board?

Anyway, before I wish you a Merry Christmas I wanted to ask if anyone
has any suggestions on how
to decorate a linux desktop of the festive season ... penguins with
santa hats invading the desktop anyone?

Merry Christmas, and a happy new year,

Philip

[LINUX.ORG.MT] Re: MLUG-list Digest, Vol 39, Issue 4

Il-Festi t-tajba lil kulħadd!

Napprezza l-idea biex issir dekorazzjoni għall-Milied fil-Linux. Però bħala dekorazzjoni Linux għal Milied ikun tajjeb li jkun hemm xi ħaġa tradizzjonalment Kattolika u Maltija għax wara kollox il-famuż "Santa Claus" hija importazzjoni kummerċjaliżżata mingħand il-popli protestanti tan-Nord ta' l-Ewropa u l-Amerikani li ħarġu minnhom. Bħal, per eżempju s-siġra tal-Milied (il-"Christmas Tree") li di fatti għandha l-oriġini tagħha fil-paganeżimu Ġermaniku u ma nafx b'liema manjiera tali ħaġa għandha sinifikat Kristjan.

Ikun tajjeb issir xi ħaġa tipo presepju jew pasturi, xi pasturi pingwini (haha), jew xi ħaġa simili. Dik tkun ħaġa Maltija u Kattolika u b'aktar spirtu Kristjan, mhux is-"Santa Claus" libes dik il-libsa (invenzjoni pura) li m'għandu xejn Kristjan fih u llum huwa sempliċi promozzjoni materjalista biex jimbotta l-kummerċ. Heh, sal-Coca Cola bil-"Father Christmas".

Mhux hekk biss, il-borra nieżla ("falling snowflakes") x'għandha x'taqsam ma' Malta? Hawn xi ħadd minkom qatt ra l-borra f'Malta? Kemm naqaw faċilment vittmi tar-riklami u l-użanzi tal-barranin xejn applikabbli għal Malta? Għandna "xorti" ikollna x-xita fil-Milied f'Malta, x'"white Christmas" u "falling snowflakes" fid-diski bl-Ingliż li jindaqqu.

Teħdunix ħażin, xejn personali, din hija ħmerija fuq livell nazzjonali u ma nafx meta dan il-poplu se jinduna u jibda jirrispetta ftit ir-realtajiet u t-tradizzjonijiet kulturali tiegħu flok jiġri jikkopja l-użanzi Ingliżi (li daħlu dawn l-affarijiet f'Malta) u angloamerikani f'Malta. Jekk tfitxu Ingliżata u Amerikanata fid-Dizzjunarju Malti ta' Mario Serracino Inglott, issibu fl-ispjegazzjoni taż-żewġ vokaboli "ħmerija" fost l-oħrajn. Naqbel mad-dizzjunarju. Nispera nqumu ftit kulturalment u naraw it-tradizzjonijiet tagħna, u b'hekk inħallu l-ħmerijiet lil min ħareġ bihom.

Awguri u l-Festi t-Tajba,
Ederico.

[LINUX.ORG.MT] Linux or FreeBSD on 7 most reliable hosting services

I just happened to notice that on NetCraft's list of 10 most reliable hosters,
the top 7 are all running either Linux or FreeBSD (4 Linux, 3 FreeBSD), while
the 8-10th places are held by Windows variants.
