And the quality of work was quite childlike, at least in Madhyamgram, so many unnecessary references to personal relations of the one who did it infest the graphics, and make it quite difficult to readt at times. And many of the landmarks are not done, many are done pretty carelessly. I think it is true for Barasat too. Who is actually in charge of these works, our Lug's Soumyanath Chatterjee, Anirban Biswas? It is a very good thing being done here, but i think it needs a bit more seriousness on part of that person who is doing the final tagging. dipankar das

And the quality of work was quite childlike, at least in Madhyamgram, Great!!! At-least child grows and become expert in some days. ilug-cal's wiki-map has the maturity of cremetion ground - no activity only bickering. > so many unnecessary references to personal relations of the one who did it > infest the graphics, and make it quite difficult to readt at times. Who is actually in charge of these works, our Lug's It is great that some one has actually spent time to add some information. Maybe this is a better approach, of adding information on top of Google map. Given the level of consructive participation in wiki-map, it is better to use google earth and keep personal copy of information, rather than do a community project.(Continue reading)

FOSS day celebration: call for group formation
Dear All: Greetings. As you know, September 16th is named as the "Software Freedom Day" and worldwide, there will be celebrations by different groups in different ways to promote and champion free and open-source software. I was wondering if we could set up a small team of volunteers to celebrate the day here in Kolkata as well. I am interested to set up a local group and we can distribute copies of free software, raise awareness. I was thinking of raising awareness among the medical and healthcare community, among patients (and general public) about the importance and opportunities that free and open-source software offers us. This is a call for a group formation. If you are interested to participate as a group member for the celebration, please write to me offlist at arin.basu@..., or call me at 9830153666 (cellphone). Also, if you know that other people are forming groups to celebrate software freedom day (SFD-2006), you can share that information too. Look forward to work with you all later,(Continue reading)

need some networking knowledge
Dear friends, hope every one is wellAs there are some network gurus in this list I may be permitted to ask some help regarding networking. I am not a network professional at all. Now I like to know about linux based networking, server configuration (like samba, appache, IMAP etc) and securities. Some books are available in the market. But I am interested in net based Tutorials. [ yes, bcoz those are free
] But I have found a lot of such tutorial in net, so I am flooded with those. Could any one kindly point out such tutorials which can help me to understand and implement the servers, network, intranet in short period of time say with in one month if I dedicate most of my time to do these ? -- -- regards, J.
