Thanks Scott! And thanks to your CIO for this generous offer.
Having too many places to meet is a good thing. Any change
in their internet use policy? Having access would allow us to
do more interesting things.

Did you get one after you posted your reply? I've gotten an out of
office. Where I used to work, Outlook only sent an out of office reply
ONCE per person reguardless of how many messages the person sent.

Thomas Griffing will present the benefits of using the
Linux Terminal Server Project (LTSP) and Open Source
Software. A diskless thin client will demonstrate how LTSP
and Open Source Software can provide an effective
replacement for typical PCs and commercial software.

It is disgust.  Pure disgust.

They have a lot of nerve messing people over and then
asking anything from ANY one in the IT domain.
I can't imagine stabbing a co-worker in the back and then
asking for their help.  It's the same thing.
Hey -- now that I put it in those words.  People do things
like that all the time and never think twice about it.   ;-)

Basically, what is happening is TWC is getting free help,
for people they were unable to shaft, from other people
in the IT industry.  No matter what they (TWC) do, they
come out smelling like a rose.

I appealed denial of my benefits (because I was in OK looking
for a job) for over 6 months and got the runaround the whole time.
I've since found out they have done similar strange things to other
people.  They will do anything to deny a legitimate claim.  As
far as I'm concerned TWC is scum and I would never consciously
do anything to help them shaft people.

If they were making a genuine effort to help people, that would be
different, but their efforts are instead, directed towards getting
people off their rolls, by whatever unethical means they can employ.
I'm not kidding about the lawyer.  If I could find one who would take
the case for a percentage,  I have what I think would be legitimate
cases against TWC and other state agencies for discrimination and
separation of church & state issues.

I thought it was AT the TWC. I didn't realize it was only for TWC. They've got a lot of nerve -- I wonder how many IT people in town they have messed over by this time? And they are getting people to volunteer their time and effort to coddle their chosen few?? Pretty funny. I'm really glad I was out of town when this project started. Anyone know of a good labor lawyer who would be willing to take on TWC for a percentage??
As much as I like a good orifice-tearing, I have to admit I'm a bit lost here. They asked for some volunteers, people volunteered... ? I'll admit it is a bit odd but I don't see the justification for getting angry at them unless I'm missing something here...

Yeah, it's too bad because I'd like to make some of the meetings. It
all hinges on my ability to remember to get to bed early on Thursday
morning, which I almost never remember to do, so I can get up early
enough. :p I'm kinda hoping that paying the membership dues will help
motivate me to become more involved.

  [resume thought...]

That's good. As you suggested in a previous email, the bone of
contention (for me anyway) isn't so much the thought of only helping
TWC's employees, but rather the act of switching midstream itself. In
point of fact, I'm actually relatively confident that what's-her-name
that pulled the switcheroo felt a bit bad about it, possibly even that
some bigwig made her do it, and that this whole thing is just a bad
scene that both sides regret not handling better.

Well, that was actually supposed to be a bit of a joke, although it is
grounded in reality as my company is actively, as we speak, hemorrhaging
American employees and vacuuming up Indian ones. But, it is true that
anyone with a fair amount of general computer and network knowledge
could do the job I have, and I guarantee the company would want to save
some money on salary if they replaced me. *shrug*

Yeah, hindsight is always 20/20, as they say. And again, I'm sure at
the end of the day this all happened in good faith rather than any
carefully executed ruse. If it were actual TWC employees, I would be
suspicious though. :)

Well, although I'll admit to being a bit miffed, I can personally say
that I'm still planning on coming by for the afternoon...I can't
possibly be up by 9:00, even if there _is_ free food! :p

Hey, for what it's worth, I've read every post on this mailing list
for as long as I've been subscribed, and my leading _two_ theories on
what "join ALG/TWC installfest" meant were both wrong. :p
But anyway, I agree with Tracy, it's water under the bridge now.
Those who feel strongly about it can/should vote with their feet;
personally I'm still planning to go but I know how it feels to have
strong opinions (hi Bob :)) so I certainly wouldn't hold it against
anyone else if they decided to change their mind...I mean, not that
anything hinges on my approval, just speaking in the abstract. :)

Wait a minute...I've just for the first time actually looked at your

Auto-replies are generally sent to the contents of From: rather than
something else like Sender: or the envelope from address. I got one of
