Multiple RAID adapters

I'm looking at setting up a massive backup, or a "tier 2" solution.  I've got my eye on a 6U/32-drive (SATA) enclosure ( http://rackmountmart.stores.yahoo.net/newrm6uracch.html ).  Then I'd put a motherboard, CPU, etc. into it.

As far as how to manage all 32 drives, I'm looking at a hardware RAID card.  Either Areca, 3ware, LSI, or Adaptec.  I've dealt the most with Areca and have to say it's a pretty good card.  But what i'm looking for is:  A single 32-SATA drive RAID card OR dual 16-SATA drive RAID cards that can work together to form a single RAID.

I've heard that you can put certain Adaptec RAID cards in parallel and configure them to work together as a single massive RAID.  Is this true?  Can Areca do this as well?

As always, any comments, criticisms, or suggestions are always welcome :)

Thanks!
Robert

I don't know of any single cards that can deal with anywhere remotely
close to that many drives.

If you're talking about using them with Linux, you're going to first
want to find out which cards are well-supported on your platform.
That will leave out a lot of cards that may be well-known on a
Microsoft OS.

If you want a lot of drives, the only solutions I know of are things
like the ACNC JetStor SATA 416S (see
<http://www.acnc.com/02_01_jetstor_sata_416s.html>), or the SurfRAID
Triton 16SA from Partners Data (see
<http://www.partnersdata.com/cgi-bin/productinfo?division=storage&id=367>).
My understanding is that ACNC & PartnersData actually resell the same
units from the same Taiwanese OEM, but that may just be rumor.

Otherwise, the next step up is real storage from real vendors like
Adaptec, Hitachi, EMC, etc.... Or maybe less well-known names like
Isilon or 3Par.
