[clug] DFD diagram in Linux

Can anyone tell me what program I can use in Linux to draw DFD? Tried Dia,
but dammit it doesn't have a Data Store shape (like a square but without
vertical line), and have no idea how to create my own shape.

I use openoffice draw for this kind of thing.

[clug] Active directory integration

Was just wondering if anyone has any experience with integrating linux on an sbs2k3 network. I have fedora
core 5 authenticating against the server with samba\winbind, but it seems to be trying to connect to
server network shares as "guest". I can provide more info (config files) if anyone thinks they can help.

Re: [clug] DFD diagram in Linux

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Tried them all, but DIA still the best tool for creating model diagram
in my situations. I resolved the lack of shape I was needed by making a
custom shape, following the guide in
http://www.gnome.org/projects/dia/custom-shapes

It's tedious, with trial and error, requiring restarting DIA each time
we modified the custom shape file to preview the result, but it was
worth it as I only need one simple shape. I was surprised that no one
would came up with the effort to create a more complete catalog of model
shapes, knowing how accessible for any users to create their own shape
collection.

Re: [clug] DFD diagram in Linux

Maybe you could put your shape on the web somewhere or perhaps email
it to the dia authors? Share and share alike as they say...

Cheers,
Paul.

[clug] How many video cards/screens/audio cards can be run off one box?

Has anybody tried this?

My group is trying to decide between using a bunch of small MPEG decoder
boxes to display composite video on a TV or decoding the MPEG streams on
a computer and displaying the results on a monitor. The same for audio.

We don't have the space for multiple systems. So we're thinking about
trying to run two dual-head video cards on a single system for video and
multiple sound cards.

It seems to me that X-Windows and ALSA should handle this sensibly. But,
as always, the devil is likely to be in the details. Has anyone actually
tried doing anything like this? Any recommendations, horror stories or
other experiences that we can draw upon?

Doug

[UNCLASSIFIED]RE: [clug] How many video cards/screens/audio cards can be run off onebox?

This sounds a lot like the video setup that was at LCA 2005.

Alas, the only thing I was able to find was a Blog post by Mikal
bemoaning that all the MPEG streams were corrupt.
	http://www.stillhq.com/diary/lca2005/000058.html

Asides from the SNAFU, it seemed to work quite well, there was a number
of displays out in the foyer screening sessions in progress, including
mapping all of them onto a rotating cube effect.

Antti
P.S. While we're on the topic, someone suggested GeexBox to me as a media player
solution, and I'm very impressed with what a 6Mb PXE boot image can achieve. :o)

Are USB audio devices in such a state that you could use those instead?

And/or, something like this for video out:
