Another one bites the dust.

3 years ago I created the last Cineon license.

Now the last Cineon employee has left the room.

we are experimenting with star for linux. It screams
if you don't want filemarks between files.

For the time being, we are still writing tapes on SGI tho.

For LTO3 and LTO4 on sgi, you need the APD driver.

Problem with linux is it does not support buffered filemarks, so if you
want tapes written in cineon format, it will take weeks to fill
the tape.

Does anyone know what Post Houses use to move data to tape these days?
Is there a Linux based CiTransfer like application?
They would like a gui based drag and drop system. I see backup software
but nothing for just image movement.

anyone still here?

Hi all,

Just interested in talking to people about the Genesis scanners and especially anyone who used to work on them both as an operator or an engineer. I am trying to set two of them up.

cheers for your time.

Dear Dan,

My goodness, its been a long time. I think the last time I saw you we went to Cirque de Soleil on the Santa Monica
Pier with Scott. That was probably 10 years ago at least.

Shamon, my brothers friend and business partner, just forwarded your email to me. I am so sorry that you just
found out about Scott, I imagine there were quite a few people at NAB that just found out. For several months
I had been emailing you but obviously it was an old account.

I don't know if you have all of the details but it has been a very difficult 7 months. Scott was very sick and
suffering for a long time. It was incredibly sad and hard to watch my big brother get so sick so fast. And it
was a shock to all of us as I am sure it was to you.

We have a fund in Scotts name and there was a fundraiser as well. I am attaching all the information in case you
want to see what went on these past few months. I hope its not overwhelming but I just want to share with you
the information about Scott.

The address is:

I hope you are well, are you still living in New Orleans?

Cineon Hardware Sales

Hi all,

does anyone have an idea of any of the following:
How many licenses of Cineon were sold each year (roughly)
What the revenue to Kodak was (per license / per year) from the Cineon
business
An estimate of the value of SGI hardware that was leveraged by Cineon
world wide per annum or total?

cheers

Re: Anybody still around from the genesis design team

It seems to me that the only people who would have the schematics for the Genesis would be Kodak. Oxberry only
built the transport mechanism. I still see a few of the guys around the building in Rochester, but I would
highly doubt that they still have the information. Even if they did, I don't know how much Kodak would be
willing to part with it. As for the metaphor scanner, that was the internal engine for both the Genesis and
Gen+ machines. All of those products, the metaphor included, have been scrapped for some time, so I would
have no clue on who to contact for information.
