Apache left the JCP
It seems that Apache has made good on its threat to leave the JCP. What are the community's feelings?

Re: Apache left the JCP
Apache, the organization, has left the JCP. It remains to be seen whether Apache, the community, will follow. Will Tomcat 8 appear as part of GlassFish? Disappointed (but not surprised) that some of the other EC players (espec. IBM) wouldn't/couldn't show some spine. But the JCP's always been a kind of banana republic. Perhaps Apache along with Google and others will fork a truly open JCP. AJUG December 2010 Pre-Meeting Hangout
Hi everybody! The AJUG December meeting is here - So why not miss traffic and spend some quality time before the meeting kicks off, networking with some other AJUG folks? We will meet on Tuesday, December 21 around 5:30 at Garcia's Mexican Restaurant. Garcia's is located in the Georgetown Shopping Center on the other side of I-285 from the AJUG meeting location (Holiday Inn Select). This is just a loose, informal time to hang out and get to know each other before we head over to the meeting for our monthly dose of mind-altering Java insights. Why waste an hour working late at the office before you head to AJUG? Come join us for some good food, good beverages, and good fun. Specifics for finding Garcia's: Garcia's Mexican Restaurant 4514 Chamblee Dunwoody Road Atlanta, GA 30338 770-458-6122 You can find the google map at:http://tinyurl.com/p5an5 To get to Garcia's simply head north on Chamblee Dunwoody Road when exiting from I-285. Garcia's is in the Georgetown shopping center on your left, between Kroger and Starbucks. I hope you can make it! Cheers, Gunnar (Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend)

Java continues to dominate
http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Application-Development/Java-C-C-Top-18-Programming-Languages-for-2011-480790/ Many of us have made a career out of Java software development and it continues to remain strong even at its current age. I believe that is due to the massive amount of innovation we have seen from open source projects like Struts, Hibernate, Spring, etc. On my personal Java-related research ToDo List: - jQuery & EXT JS clients for Java RESTful services (SpringMVC and RESTEasy endpoints) - Grails - Play! Framework - brings some RAD back to Java - figure out how to be more productive with Maven - figure out how to be more productive with Git and of course EE6 (CDI, JPA2, JSF2) - JBoss AS6 for EE6 ships soon (currently at candidate release 1). What frameworks, utilities, tools or techniques are at the top of your learning list? Burr

Re: Java continues to dominate
I am currently working/learning with grails and jquery, but the jquery mobile and jq touch look cool. as does phonegap.com's stuff. if you are wanting to leverage a web app on the mobile platform, you may find these interesting. love grails but dislike the amount of groovy/grails support from eclipse. yes it works, but its buggy at times.
