Re: [ajug-announce] AJUG Meeting - July 20, 2010 <at> 7:00pm - Reddwarf + Android Game Development

Hi Gunner,

I don’t know if you can help me, but I had signed up for the ajug job notification and I have since been employed and forgot my login to get to turn these off.  I can’t get anywhere.  Is there any resource you can point me to?

Thank you,

Heather

Subject: [ajug-announce] AJUG Meeting - July 20, 2010 <at> 7:00pm - Reddwarf + Android Game Development

Dear AJUG members!

This is just a friendly reminder that our regular July meeting is here. This month we have Summers Pittman talk about Reddwarf and Android Game Development. Reddwarf is a community fork of Project Darkstar, created after Oracle stopped further active development.

As time permits I am also publishing the audio files from the DevNexus 2010 conference and any recordings done at our AJUG meetings. Over the last 2 weeks I have published:

Lex Spoon - Scala: Running on the JVM with Less Boilerplate (DevNexus 2010)
Tim Crowley - The Reluctant Client-Side Developer (Recorded at last month's AJUG meeting)

You can download the files directly through the links above, grab them via iTunes (search for DevNexus Podcast) or subscribe directly to our feed.

Lastly, I think we have straightened out our issues with the Holiday Inn and are meeting back there again. So I hope you can make it!

This month's meeting details:

When:  July 20, 2010 <at> 7:00pm
Where: Holiday Inn Select Atlanta Perimeter Dunwoody
4386 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road
Atlanta, GA 30341

Who:  Summers Pittman
What: Reddwarf + Android Game Development

Description:

Summers will cover how he developed a simple game, Mooks, for Google's Android platform which was hosted using the Red Dwarf game server. He will discuss the Red Dwarf server itself, how to create a test harness for using TDD with Red Dwarf, the design of the Android client, and issues with testing and porting the game among phones.

Our Speaker:

Summers Pittman is a software developer at Engauge. He holds a BS in Computer Science and a MS in Human Computer Interaction from Georgia Tech.

AJUG July 2010 Pre-Meeting Hangout

Hi AJUG members!

The AJUG July meeting is here and we're back at the Holiday Inn - So why not miss traffic and spend some quality
time before the meeting kicks off, networking with some other AJUG folks?

We will meet on Tuesday, July 20 around 5:30 at
Garcia's Mexican Restaurant. Garcia's is located in the Georgetown Shopping
Center on the other side of I-285 from the AJUG meeting location
(Holiday Inn Select).

This is just a loose, informal time to hang out and get to know each
other before we head over to the meeting for our monthly dose of
mind-altering Java insights. Why waste an hour working late at the office before you head to AJUG?
Come join us for some good food, good beverages, and good fun.

Specifics for finding Garcia's:

Garcia's Mexican Restaurant
4514 Chamblee Dunwoody Road
Atlanta, GA 30338
770-458-6122

You can find the google map at http://tinyurl.com/p5an5

To get to Garcia's simply head north on Chamblee Dunwoody Road when
exiting from I-285. Garcia's is in the Georgetown shopping center on
your left, between Kroger and Starbucks.

Hope you can make it!

Cheers,

Gunnar

Interested in an Android Developer's special-interest group?

At last Tuesday's AJUG meeting a lot of people expressed interest in
learning more about Android development, and I'm wondering if we've
got enough interest to ask Gunnar for AJUG support in setting up a
meeting place. I;m currently thinking it makes sense to hold the
meetings on the first Tuesday of the month to give us a little space
before and after the AJUG meeting.

If you're interested in attending meetings, please send a reply and
include the following information:
1) If you can't attend on the first Tuesday of the month, please list
several days that you can attend and we'll pick the most agreeable
one.
2) Are you currently doing any Android development at all?
3) Would you be interested in sharing what you know with the rest of the group?

Thanks!
Burk

Re: Interested in an Android Developer's special-interest group?

You may want to get with the GTUG (Google Technologies User Group) involved as I know they're looking to do an Android focused meeting either later this month or next.

Re: Interested in an Android Developer's special-interest group?

another established group is the MeetUp group for Atlanta Mobile Developers.   they discuss android, iphone, blackberry, etc. i have found it to be pretty enjoyable but they tend to meet on the same night as AJUG

Re: Interested in an Android Developer's special-interest group?

Many Thanks for the great initiative. I am doing Android and iPhone Apps Development and initiated  the same discussion with you and Gunnar in the last meeting.
I am willing to share and contribute by doing sessions in the Android Apps Development .

Here are answers:

1)  First Tuesday of the month.
2) Yes
3)  Yes

We can also attend Google Technologies User Group meetings but those are NOT just focused only on Android and it is Google sponsored event.
Good sharing of thoughts and practical learning happens at out AJUG meetings only.

Thanks,
Ram Indukuri
