[indoexpat-uk] Swine flu map, alert level 6 (max)

taken from Nokia Siemens Networks UK circular
________________________________

Dear Colleagues

There are now more than 6,500 confirmed cases of
swine flu in the UK. The World Health Organization
(WHO) raised the alert level to phase 6 in response to the spread of the new
influenza A(H1N1) ("swine flu"). This is the highest level on the scale from 1
to 6 and is characterized by sustained person-to-person transmission of the
influenza A(H1N1) virus in a second of the total of six WHO regions.

In raising the alert level, the WHO is
responding to the fact that several countries have confirmed new cases of the
disease. The increase in the number of infections in the UKin
particular means that personal hygiene is all the more important, especially in
contact with people who are returning from a trip or vacation and in contact
with other people in general – at work, for example.

Influenza viruses are passed on by droplet
transmission. Especially when people sneeze or cough, pathogens can also be
transferred to and then spread by their hands.

The following recommendations
will help minimize the risk of infection:
· Do not cough or sneeze on other people or let
others cough or sneeze on you
· Cough and sneeze into a handkerchief (not into your
hands)

Re: [indoexpat-uk] New Immigration Bill - Clause 39 removed

Rekan2,

berita buruk. Clause 39 amendment yg ditablekan oleh House of Lord diremove oleh House of Common committee
18 Juni kmaren

selama probationary citizenship and limited leave to remain, ke dokter aja harus bayar. klo ga salah,
malah state school juga harus bayar.

Gmn pendapat rekan2 ??

[indoexpat-uk] UK - Police Advisory

Thursday 18 June 2009

Warning over bogus adverts

Police are advising the public not to reply to bogus adverts placed in local and national press by a company
claiming to sell high value electrical goods at reduced prices.

Customers who have attempted to buy goods from the advert have been asked to pay or transfer cash into a bank
account. They are told that the items will be sent to them only to find that the purchases never arrive.

The adverts have been placed in local papers and magazines nationwide under a variety of names including
Arash Ltd, The Gadget Company, Gadget Limited, Office Bits Warehouse, Office Supplies Cabin and Office
Brands Megastore. The only contact details are telephone and fax numbers and occasionally an email
address that is based on the domain: @easymailorders.com. (It should be noted that there are companies in
the UK trading legitimately under names similar to 'The Gadget Company'.)

Another aspect of the scam is that cards from a company calling themselves 'Parcel Express UK' are posted
through random front doors telling the householder that they have missed delivery of a parcel. It asks the
recipient to phone a number and pay for a customs charge of the product by credit or debit card, once this is
done the parcel fails to arrive. Again the money is not debited from the victims' account but the details
are later used fraudulently.

Parcel Express UK is not a legitimate company. As a matter of course unless you are confident of the
legitimacy of the company contacting you then do not provide your card or bank details to organisations or
people not known to you.

If you have placed an order in response to one of the newspaper adverts concerned, or called 'Parcel Express
UK', you should inform your bank immediately and cancel your card.

Det Ch Supt Steve Head, head of the Economic Crime Directorate at the City of London Police and the force

[indoexpat-uk] credit crunch in UK

Ex-display discount item
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=806835
I recently bought an ex-display HP F2280 printer from PC World, the unit was out on the shelf and I asked the
seller to find the original box and its content. Luckily all printer's ink cartridges were there and I
decided to buy it with bargain price of £29.99. The price of the unit if it were still in the sealed box was
£44.99, but because the unit was a display model, PC World slash off £15 from the price tag. The unit works
fine at my home now. Also, HP had this twisted marketing scheme, the cheaper the printer unit the more
expensive the cartridge price. If I were to buy the lowest HP printer model, say HP D1560 for £29.35, then
the future purchase of its cartridge would cost me around £70. Therefore, buy higher model and check the
price of its cartridges before hand. It might be wise to keep the original box with the receipt inside as
well, in case if you need to return faulty unit and get the new replacement.

Model flees prince who 'slashed and raped' her

A teenage model has accused her Malaysian prince husband of treating her like a sex slave after a daring
escape from his clutches.

Manohara Odelia Pinot said the royal had raped and tortured her, slashed her with razor blades and forced
her to take drugs while she was locked in his palace.

The 17-year-old US-Indonesian socialite also claimed the Malaysian and Indonesian governments ignored
her pleas for help and 'told lies' about her welfare.

She was able to escape only when the prince's family visited Singapore and she ran away from her guards while
in a hotel.

'Sexual abuse and sexual harassment were like a daily routine for me – I could never think a normal man
could do such things,' she said.

'I am still traumatised.'

Manohara, from Jakarta, married Tengku Temenggong Mohammad Fakhry, the prince of Kelantan state, in a
fairy-tale wedding last year.

But afterwards, she claimed she was locked up in his palace, often raped and forced to take sedatives which
