Dear Colleague,

I warmly invite you to join Internet governance experts and industry leaders from all over the world at the Radisson Royal Hotel in Dubai on 3-5 March 2013 for a meeting on Multi-stakeholder Internet Governance in the Arab World. This event is hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of UAE, as part of the Open Consultations for the Arab Internet Governance Forum, with support from the RIPE NCC and ICANN.

Attendees will join leaders and senior executives, including ICANN President and CEO, Fadi Chehade, Chairman of the ICANN Board, Steve Crocker, and the senior management of the RIPE NCC. The meeting aims to develop greater engagement between Internet organizations and stakeholder groups in the Arab region.

[menog-announce] See you at MENOG 12 in Dubai!

Dear colleagues,

The Internet in the Middle East is growing rapidly and it's the engaged
and forward-thinking
organisations that will gain an advantage in this dynamic marketplace.
With IPv4 exhaustion
and the emergence of new Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), there has
never been a better time
to attend MENOG 12 and ensure you're among the leaders contributing to
developments in
the region.

From 6-7 March, network engineers and operators will converge on the
Radisson Royal Hotel
in Dubai to meet with their peers in the Middle East and other key
players from around the
globe. The purpose of MENOG 12 is to provide a platform for regional and
cross-regional
cooperation, sharing experience and ideas, and establishing lasting
relationships.

Middle East Peering Forum (MPF)
MENOG 12 will also see the inauguration of the Middle East Peering Forum
(MPF). Taking
place on 7 March, the MPF will bring together the leading content
providers, social media
operators, network operators and mobile operators from around the world.
Attendees will
have the opportunity to expand their professional networks and initiate
new peering
arrangements. The MPF will also discuss the impact the new IXPs will
have on the Internet
landscape, and how they will come to affect Internet Service Providers
and network operators
over time.

Attendance is free for MENOG 12 and the MPF, and we encourage attendees
to register ahead
of time via the online registration form:
http://www.menog.org/register

The draft meeting agenda is posted at:
http://www.menog.org/meetings/menog-12/agenda/

Tutorials
MENOG 12 tutorials are on 5 March. These 90-minute presentations cover a
range of topics,
from building Internet exchange points to cryptography and the Internet.
You can find the full
list of tutorials here:

[menog-announce] Invitation to the First Middle East Peering Forum (MPF): 7, March 2013, Dubai

[Apologies for duplicate emails]

Dear colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the first ever Middle
East Peering Forum (MPF), scheduled to take place during the twelfth
meeting of the Middle East Network Operators Group (MENOG) on 7 March
2013 in Dubai.

The Internet landscape in the Middle East is changing rapidly and the
development of Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) in the region is one of
the most significant recent developments. What impact will this have on
the current interconnection environment? How will this affect your
business as an Internet Service Provider or network operator? We aim to
discuss these questions and more as part of an interactive, open
discussion with experts from around the globe. The programme will
include thought leaders from a range of industries, including mobile
operators, social networking entities, content providers, data centre
operators, telco operators and IXP operators.

MENOG has initiated the MPF to strengthen and develop the local peering
ecosystem and connect it with the global peering community. The Forum
will bring together peering coordinators, industry representatives and
IXP operators to share technical knowledge and best practices, discuss
industry trends and developments and provide a unique opportunity to
network and initiate new peering arrangements and enhance existing ones.

While the peering community is global, this forum offers the potential
to focus on issues specific to operators in the Middle East. The active
engagement and participation of Internet community members in the region
will help to realize the potential of the MPF.

The MPF will take place on 7 March 2013 at the Radisson Royal Hotel,
Dubai. Attendance is free, and we encourage attendees to register ahead
of time via the online registration form:
http://www.menog.org/meetings/menog-12/

The development of IXPs is a hot topic in the region. We encourage you
to join us help launch this new and exciting regional activity. We look
forward to welcoming you to the Middle East Peering Forum and MENOG 12
in Dubai.

Best Regards,

Paul Rendek
Director of External Relations, RIPE NCC

RIPE 66: Call for Papers, 13-17 May 2013 in Dublin

Salaam everyone

Call for Papers: RIPE 66

A RIPE Meeting is an open event where Internet Service Providers,
network operators and other interested parties get together. Although
the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to
meet and network with others in their field.

RIPE 66 will take place on 13-17 May 2013 in Dublin, Ireland.

The RIPE Programme Committee (PC) is now seeking content proposals
from the RIPE community for the Plenary, BoF and Tutorial sessions at
RIPE 66. The PC is looking for presentations covering topics of
network engineering and operations, including but not limited to:

- IPv6 deployment
- Managing IPv4 scarcity in operations
- Commercial transactions of IPv4 addresses
- Data center technologies
- Network and DNS operations
- Internet governance and regulatory practices
- Network and routing security
- Content delivery
- Internet peering and mobile data exchange

Submissions

Attendees of the RIPE meetings are quite sensitive to keeping
presentations non-commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly
discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful
talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case
studies. For example, presenters wishing to describe a commercial
solution should focus on the underlying technology and not attempt a
product demonstration.

Presenters who are proposing a panel or BoF are encouraged to include
speakers from several (perhaps even competing) companies and/or a
neutral facilitator.

In addition to presentations selected in advance for the Plenary, the
RIPE PC also offers several time slots for “lightning talks” which are
selected immediately before or during the conference.

The following requirements apply:

- Proposals for Plenary talks, BoFs, Panels and Tutorials must be
submitted for full consideration no later than 24 February 2013, using
the meeting submission system at:

https://meetings.ripe.net/pc/

Proposals submitted after this date will be considered on a
space-available basis.

- Presenters should indicate how much time they will require (30
minutes for talks is a common maximum duration, although some talks
can be longer).

- Proposals for talks will only be considered by the PC if they
contain at least draft presentation slides (slides may be updated
later on). For BoFs and panels, proposals must contain a clear
description as well as names of invited panelists/presenters.

- Due to potential technical issues, it is expected that most if not
all presenters/panelists will be physically present at the RIPE
meeting.

- Lightning talks should be submitted using the meeting submission
system. They must be short (10 minutes maximum) and often involve more
timely topics. They can be submitted at any time. The allocation of
lightning talk slots will be announced one day prior to the relevant
session.

If you have any questions or requests concerning content submissions,
please email pc [at] ripe [dot] net.

APRICOT 2013 in Singapore

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that the call for papers for APRICOT 2013 (in
Singapore next February) opened a few days ago.

Rather than posting the whole cfp here, you can see it via the programme
page on the APRICOT website - www.apricot2013.net/program.

MENOG and APRICOT are the network operations conferences for adjacent
regions - and indeed both regions have considerable overlap and
interests in common.

Please give some thought to presenting something topical at APRICOT -
the Programme Committee would love to hear from you. You can submit your
proposal via http://papers.apricot.net.

Thanks!

philip
