Re: CUPS v1.4.4

Hi Paul

Just reporting that the most recent build of cups 1.4.4 -
cups-1.4.4-os2-20100812.zip - has the same problems as the previous
build ie:-

Printing never gets further than "Printing - Page 1, 3%" and the log
(below) contains similar goobledegook to previously.

I've had a look through the debug log generated (attached below) and
here are some things that caught my attention:-

Do I need a value for SystemGroup?
E [13/Aug/2010:17:00:32 +0000] Missing value for SystemGroup on line 2

The path/filename in this log entry does not exist
D [13/Aug/2010:17:02:03 +0000] [CGI] envp[29] =
"SCRIPT_FILENAME=/cups/share/doc/cups/printers/PIXMA"

The log contains several lines of non-text as with cups 1.4.2 and
previous 1.4.4 build; this line is the start of the 1st section of non-text
D [13/Aug/2010:17:02:07 +0000] [Job 24] Setting MediaClass to
"SelectKey%%BeginFeature: *InputSlot SelectKey¿iýJÐ×\

With more further on in the log; this line is the start of the 2nd
section of non-text
D [13/Aug/2010:17:02:07 +0000] [Job 24] Setting MediaType to

This is where the print job "sticks" - possibly due to whatever causes

Yes, no trouble printing using cups 1.3.11 with that "Missing value" so
I did not expect that to be a real problem. Just interested in what cups

None of the above has made the slightest difference to cups 1.4.4
failing to print. The debug log still shows:-

Can you please remind me which Pixma you are trying to install - that
way, I can install a virtual Pixma here and try and reproduce.

Cheers,

No real problem - just means that I am stuck using cups 1.3.11 as that
works fine.

As the ipp file (compiled version) is not a supplied file is it a bad

I have now solved my "cups 1.4.4 does not print" problem.

This is a combination of 2 actions

1] I tried printing from cups 1.3.11 using ipp and socket instead of lpd
as the Connection:-

ipp does not work, reports "host 192.168.1.1 busy" which I suspect
means that cups did not get an expected response of some sort from the
print server built into my router.
socket worked fine, faster printing than using lpd

As cups 1.3.11 worked fine with the socket connection I reinstalled cups
1.4.4 and attempted to print the Test Page from the browser interface.
This gave an error about an unsupported format, from the log:-
