Re: eCUPS-USB

I finally got around to installing cups and splix, and they partly work
on my Samsung ML-2510. I can print the test page either from the Web
interface, or using lpr, and also print various PostScript files from
\espgs\share\ghostscript\8.15\examples, as well as a JPEG, also using
lpr. Printing text files or PDF files using lpr, or printing Web pages
with a printer object through ECUPS.PDR doesn't seem to work.

I'm using ml2510.ppd from splix-1.1.0.tar.bz2 (the first version that
had a PPD file for the ML-2510). PIN.EXE from PSCRIPT.DRV 30.827 had no
trouble with the same PPD file, so I'm using PSCRIPT.DRV 30.827. The
actual printer is on a USB port, so I created a printer object using
IBMNULL.DRV for OS/2's lpd. (The instructions for using OS/2's lpd for
a USB printer would seem to apply equally to a parallel or serial printer.)

I also found that \espgs\bin\gs.exe --help lists the (badly named) gdi
driver, which should also work for my printer. I generated a PPD file
for the ML-2010 at http://openprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=gdi
and used search-and-replace to change "2010" to "2510" everywhere, since
the 2510 is nearly identical to the 2010, except that it's slightly
faster, also has a parallel port, and is dark gray instead of beige.
However, the PPD file specifies the foomatic-rip filter, which isn't
available. (Why does it need another filter?)

Anyway, it appears to me that generating SPL2 from PostScript works, and
the problem that I have is somewhere in the process of generating
PostScript.

updated PIN tool for PSCRIPT.DRV

Hello,

I've read in this newsgroup that there is an updated versionen of the
PIN tool which is supplied by the Postscript driver package.

We have a new printer here that comes with a very large PPD file (over
100 kB). The original one crashes with segfault if I try to create the
auxprint.pak with this large PPD file.

I would like to try it with the updated PIN tool and appreciate it if
someone can post a download link.

I think there is a version of Netlabs ftp somewhere, but
try http://dev.smedley.info/gccpin.zip

Cheers,

Paul.

I'm afraid but this version traps also with this PPD file. I've uploaded
the debug output and the PPD file to http://dk-ware.de/privat/pin.log
and http://dk-ware.de/privat/TSES4D_1.PPD. Maybe you or someone else can
have a look at it.

I appreciate your work.
