Re: eCUPS-USB

I just discovered this group yesterday.

Until CUPS supports Samsung printers, you could see if this:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/drivers/printer/samsung_gdidrv.zip
works for you. It's Ghostscript 8.13 with the Samsung "Smart GDI"
driver compiled in, and printmon. I haven't been able to use it with my
Samsung ML-2510 (which works fine in Linux) because I haven't found out
how to set up printmon for a USB printer, and no matter what I try,
whenever I try to run it, it dies with this message:
PRINTMON: printer queue redirection device monitor
DosMonReg error code: 8

The Samsung "Smart GDI" driver
(http://www.openprinting.org/download/printing/samsung-gdi/) is for
printers that understand Samsung SPL1, which should include printers
that understand Samsung SPL2. SpliX is specifically for printers that
understand SPL2. It would be nice if either or both of these drivers
were added to CUPS. The source code in samsung_gdidrv.zip might help
with that.

Re: Re: eCUPS-USB

Hello Andrew,

Thanks for the info, I have tried the driver, my printer is also on usb,
i have managed to send something to the printer, but nothing useful will
happen.

I have not dissabled the spooler like it is suggested, but I used the
spooler to redirect LPT2(printmon output) to the USB port, and when I
print something the light on the printer flashes, like that the data is
read, but than nothing happens when it is supposed to print.

Maybe you can try this way, se if it works for you?

Regards
Smiley

Re: eCUPS-USB

Hello Paul,

I know you have alot of work.

I have been trying out your build enviroment a bit and I would like to
build the splix driver, but I need some cups stuff to do it, but
building cups seems to much for me.
Note that I am not a programer, I know some pascal, and little C.

Would it be possible, to make available the cups stuff that is needed in
order to build the splix driver, or maybe an updated build enviroment
with some cups libraries with it.

Regards
Smiley

Re: eCUPS-USB

Hi Smiley,

I built to rastertospl*.exe - http://dev.smedley.info/splix.zip

Cheers,

Paul.

Re: eCUPS-USB

I have tried it on SCX-4200 did not work, I hope I can get my hands on a
printer that should be working with it soon.

Thanks

Re: eCUPS-USB

Hi Smiley, from what I can see here:

http://groups.google.it/group/comp.sys.mac.printing/browse_frm/thread/34b6c5473227a7b4/2ad881dc216d1553?lnk=st&q=SCX-4200+spl2&rnum=1#2ad881dc216d1553

the SCX-4200 is a SPL2, so it should be supported by SpliX, but from
what it is here:

http://forums.linux-foundation.org/read.php?31,302,320,quote=1

it currently doesn't work...

(I too have an SCX-4200. Would be great if I could use it directly from
OS2!)

The readme.os2 file would seem to indicate that just unzipping the

or did I miss something? I'm willing to experiment, but would like to

start.

In a word, are there any prerequisites to the CUPS installation that I

I'm not using eCS as of yet, as to do so I would have to first
translate it into Japanese...
(I did start once, but got too busy to continue, and then lost the
files in a crash)

So, just to confirm, there are no dependancies other than on the
correct libc.dll

Correct - as far as I am aware.

I do not seem to have a libc063x.dll file anywhere on my system. I am
wondering if cupsd is trying to use that dll instead of libc063.dll
