OpenWRT on NanoStation _M_ 5 (note the M)

Hello,

the NanoStation 5 has been replaced by NanoStation _M_ 5. Looks like
the old device gets harder and harder to find at shops.

I bought a couple of NanoStation M5 but from the official channels
looks like this device is not really supported:

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/start#ubiquiti

However, I spotted some firmware images with a particular name:
http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03.1-rc4/ar71xx/openwrt-ar71xx-ubnt-nano-m-squashfs-factory.bin

so this could the image for backfire ?

any advice to flash this device ?

thanks !

yepp, this image works fine on the M5 devices. Just put the nano in
recovery mode (push reset, power on, hold the reset button for at least
10 seconds) and thransfer the image using tftp.

We tested ap, sta and ad-hoc mode successfuly, but there are some
pitfalls you should be aware of:

- adhoc is slower thant ap/sta (our test showed ~19MBit/s vs. 27MBit/s
on the same test environment)
- running olsr on the wan interface (eth1) fails (NLQ is 1, LQ 0). We
"fixed" this problem by switching wan (=eth0) and lan (=eth1) in
/etc/config/network, but this causes other problems (no dhcp on the
lan/eth1 interface, extreme slow wan connections - about 1/10th of the
wlan-speed)
- there are some regulatory issues as well

Especially because of the olsr-issue, we're running AirOS on the M5
devices now.

best regards,

Firmware für neues Freifunknetz anpassen.

Hallo

Wir verwenden in Rosbach noch die "Klasische Firmware", würden allerdings gerne Backfire benutzen.
Aber wie können wir unsere Community in den "Freifunk-Wizzard" hinzufügen? Den umständlichen kann
man doch keinem User zumuten.
An wen müssen wir uns dafür wenden?
Gibt es sonst noch irgendetwas zu beachen?

Vielen dank im Voraus.

Gruß Simon

Hallo Simon

schau dir mal das an:
http://luci.subsignal.org/trac/browser/luci/trunk/modules/freifunk/root/etc/config

OpenWRT on PicoStation 5 ?

At Ninux we did some shopping :)

Okay, now I have to flash a PicoStation5, and again there is no
official advice here:

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/start#ubiquiti

I logged in via SSH in AirOS and I got this info:

XS5.ar2313.v3.5.4476.091013.1757# cat /proc/cpuinfo
system type : Atheros AR531X
processor : 0
cpu model : MIPS 4Kc V0.10
BogoMIPS : 179.81
wait instruction	: yes
microsecond timers	: yes
tlb_entries : 16
extra interrupt vector	: yes
hardware watchpoint	: yes
VCED exceptions : not available
VCEI exceptions : not available
XS5.ar2313.v3.5.4476.091013.1757#

So I guess the correct firmware could be this one ?
http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03.1-rc4/atheros/openwrt-atheros-ubnt5-squashfs.bin

thanks

wow, thanks for the hint, I'll test this fix tomorrow and report the
results :)

Ok, this fixes the problem partially :) Now the interface comes up,
olsrd detects the neighbour on eth1/wan and LQ/NLQ is getting better and
better... until:
