freifunk at CeBIT 2012

Hi,

as I wanted to go to the CeBIT this year, I thought it might be a good
idea to present some ideas about freifunk there as well. Well,
freifunk was even accepted as a sponsored Free/Open Source Projects to
join the CeBIT and get a small booth.

Who would like to join the event and be part of the team at the event?

More details:

When:
from March 6-10

Where:
Hannover, Germany

How:
* I have set up a Wiki page for everyone who would like to help with
the organization:
http://wiki.freifunk.net/CeBIT_2012
* Preparations and communications are running over the following channel:
https://freifunk.net/mailman/listinfo/wlanware

Who:
We already have some Italien friends from the Ninux community who want
to come. But surely we need a few more people to make it work out.
Please add your name on the wiki and write down when you will be
there.

Fwd: Student Application for GSOC.

 Hello Freifunk team,

I am graduate student, pursuing my masters in Computer Science in NCSU, Raleigh,USA.
I came across your project idea page and am very much interested in learning and contributing towards OLSR routing protocol.
I came to know GSOC little late, so i would agree my application template isn't complete but I would be working on it in coming weeks and
and would like to work with Freifunk community this summer.

Please let me like what else i need to do because i am still not sure of the process like selecting the Mentors.
Thanks and looking forward for the response.I am attaching the template and resume and cover letter.

 -Thanks,
  Narahari

                                      Application Template:

North Carolina State  University. Masters in Computer Science/Networking.

Grade: GPA 3/4.

·         2. new routing metrics for OLSR

       Possible Mentor (optional)

  • Benefits to the Free Software Community, who would gain from your project?
  •  I would like to bringing in the new features of OLSR and want to integrate within the Windows Networking stack, i hope this task involves making changes to NDIS, which is   my area of interest. As of now, I myself am seeing as the beneficiary which helps me learn and contribute and also very confident like porting this to windows would help in larger acceptance of users.
  • Deliverable - It is very important to list quantifiable results here e.g.
  • Project Details - more detailed description.
  • Project Schedule - How long will the project take? When can you begin work?

- Design Document on porting the OLSR to windows.

- Code and code documentation with all the test cases with necessary deliverable like INF files and build scripts for installation of any new drivers.

I need to figure this out with my mentor and

will be drafting the schedule and project details and project as soon as possible and will share the same.

  • Availability - How many hours per week can you spend working on this? What other obligations do you have this summer?

I would available 40 hours per week during this summer:

Starting from 2 week of May to 1 week of September.

freifunk x86

Is there any how to, to build an x86 based freifunk device? I have a netbook with a wifi card, and a ethernet port, I wander if it would be possible to turn it into a router - It currently runs gentoo, and a dual boot would be really cool.

Att.,

how to measure channel idle time

Hello,

I want to look at my channel from my mac for an amount of time X and measure the idle time Y, so I can use the ratio Y/X to do some maths... Do you guys know an easy way of doing this in a OpenWrt/Freifunk router?

thanks

WAP54G v2 bootet nicht mehr

Hallo WLANWare Community,

Marc Vollmer

No body from Ninux at this WCW2011 :(

Hello,

I want to tell in advance that unfortunately no body from Ninux will
be able to attend the WCW 2011 :(

At first we thought to come in a big group as usual, but people
getting older, with real jobs and families to deal with, makes
organitations more tricky every year.

We are really sorry because it is always a pleasure to join you guys
in the C-Base and spend a good weekend chatting and having fun about
wireless topics.

We are even more sorry because we had a lot of stuff to tell, amazing
network is growing in Rome, with a rock solid backbone giving service
to squats and citizens, with server farms with real services for
community members and so on. Also we have news about the GSoC projects
we are doing under the Freifunk umbrella. All I can say for now is to
keep an eye on http://blog.ninux.org and http://map.ninux.org

I hope we get a chance to recover this summer at the CCC Camp.

ciao :)

Saverio & the other ninux guys.

Re: A Prototype Service Module For Freimap That I Made ( Apologies for the second mail )

Hi,

I finally completed the prototype I was working on. for a service module for Freimap. The GUI is very basic, no design. The whole prototype is very basic.

       You can download it at,
            git clone git://git-9UaJU3cA/F/QT0dZR+AlfA@public.gmane.org:ngm7/test_servicemodule.git

The program enters the user in a multicast session. Different users in the multicast session (chose a common groupid and portno) will be able to exchange files and record each others changes in files. The log files on linux systems are appended to by the kernel. This program shall multicast the last 2048 bytes of the file you chose. Thus, one's sytem's information can be made available over the network. One can use this to troubleshoot a node remotely.

The program also receives other node's data and appends it to a file. Please change the filepath variable 'destFileName' in 'McastRecv.java' to any appropriate file you want. The file whose changes you intend to send ( you will be prompted for a path ) must be atleast 2KB. files lesser that these, WILL be sent and received correctly, just that editors like 'gedit' which use encodings will not be able to read them. use vim in such cases to view the changes. You need to have reading and writing permissions to the two files in question.

I would love to have inputs on it. But, I wont be able to make immediate changes to the code, as I have my end-of-semester exams starting from tomorrow ( ::kill:: ). In case of queries, drop in a mail.

I really think, adding a service module to freimap will transform it into a different specimen altogether. It shall no longer be just a map. Think of booting computers remotely, ssh, troubleshooting etc.

- Naman

OLSR-DHCP über mehrere Hops

Hallo,

mfg, Andreas Weidlinger
