wifi summer convention
Dear people at Freifunk.net,
We read you are about to decide where to hold the next Freifunk
gathering. We are co-organizers of a large hacker gathering in The
Netherlands, and we feel it would be very fitting if our events shared a
common place and time. But let's first introduce ourselves and the event.
"What The Hack?" is part of a series of events held every four years in
The Netherlands. The series started with "The Galactic Hacker Party" in
Amsterdam at the Paradiso. This event was also known as the
"International Conference on the Alternative use of Technology,
Amsterdam". Since then we have moved outdoors, and the next edition,
called "Hacking at the End of the Universe (HEU)" (1993) was held on a
large field, as well as "Hacking In Progress" (1997) and "Hackers At
Large" (2001). A number of you maye be familiar with these events, since
they have grown in size over the years: the last edition was visited by
nearly 3000 people.

became What The Hack.
For the next edition (this coming summer!) we plan to attract/stimulate
more decentralized sub-gatherings, to make sure it doesn't become the
mass-gathering we fear. (We've had the fear every time, and people are
telling us we still managed to make the 2001 event feel much smaller
than it was).
There will be a website up, with many more details, later this month.
The date we have set for the festival is July 26-30th for the
'organized' part of the programme, but people can arrive early and spend
