[zebra 22951] Multple Router simaulation on single machine

Hi,

We have installed two instances of zebra 0.94 on a single Linux machine with VMWare application. The  Linux machine has single network interface card.

We are interested in testing OSPFv2. We have configured the interface card with two different IP addresses for two different virtual Linux machine. Moreover Linux machine is connected to Layer 2 switch.

Is it possible to establish ospf adjacency between the two routers running on the same Linux machine with single interface card?  If possible can anyone guide me how to achieve this?

Regards,

[zebra 22953] Re: FW: Multple Router simaulation on single machine

You can have multiple internal virtual networks and use virtual internal NICs between the VMs, and you can also use VLAN tagging to have a single NIC connect to multiple networks from a single physical interface if it’s supported by the switch.

[zebra 22956] Re: please let me know the latest development in Zebra....

Try the quagga fork of zebra which is being actively developed.

Nothing new here with zebra since November 2003

Try www.quagga.net for more information on fork and mailing lists.

[zebra 22959] Re: Want to Contribute !!!!!

Hi.

There are several tasks that should be done in this project ...
Below would be a part of the list (there would be more):

1. Summarize the known problems/bugs in the Zebra

If the problems are well summarized with the description of
the source of the problem or what is observed in what circumstances,
I can and will fix the problem. The list of problems/bugs is
desired to be in the order of its priority. One can create
such list by reading past zebra ML thoroughly.
There would be some (many ? T_T) problems without any response
  and left ...

2. Create feature request list

Also desired to be in the order of its importance.
The next-step Zebra should proceed would be pthread-support.
(Today CPU vendors widely use multi-core for parallel processing)
I have heard that ospfd become too busy to handle HELLOs when
it is ABR and has many summary-routes and many adjacencies.
Those kind of problems should be resolved by scheduler design
(actually it will be changes rather than design from scratch,
as the zebra scheduler design is simple enough)

You should also check Quagga project (http://www.quagga.net/).

Please see also my unfinished page ...
http://zebra.sfc.wide.ad.jp/
I can add two more patches in the page: First is the old dampening
module used to be in ospf6d. It can be changed so that it can
support dampening of arbitrary tasks. Second is unfinished
pthread-support (not-tested, need more to work, experimentally
coded only in lib/thread.[ch]). If you're interested in.

regards,
yasu
