zd1211rw 1-1.1:1.0: zd_usb_ioread16v() read timed out

I am unable to get the belkin wifi dongle work on my ARM target board.I have described my complete steps.Any advise appreciated.
1.Is there any other known kernel patches that I can apply?
2.Is something wrong with my USB subsystem?
3.I have tried various cable length/with and without hub.Any other ideas?

When you plug the dongle in at the first time, the firmware files get uploaded
in the correct way(ref: first section of dmesg log). It errors out when you
do an 'ifconfig' subsequently. My firmware files are located in
/lib/firmware/zd1211/.

thanks for the reply.

Re: zd1211rw 1-1.1:1.0: zd_usb_ioread16v() read timed out

I got the dongle to work inconsistently on "2.6.22.18-omap1" ,configured the same as earlier in the post. The dongle works fresh out of the box.But on second and consecutive attempts it stops working and goes into reset mode.

I actually don't use the rw driver, because I need Master mode (which, currently, only the vendor driver
provides). Somebody will hate me for mentioning this - there are people who had some experience with
making the vendor driver work on ARM:
http://linux.omap.com/pipermail/davinci-linux-open-source/2007-February/002478.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/davinci-linux-open-source <at> linux.davincidsp.com/msg02723.html

On a different issue, have you tried "modprobe -r" between attempts?

PN15G firmware upload problems

I've had an issue with the wlan device ever since i bought it.
Essentially, it never works on startup. Every time i boot my machine i
have to replug the device 10's of times to get the firmware to load.
When it starts working it is 98% of the time very stable. This has been
a low priority issue for me because the machine was on 24/7 but now that
i would like to hibernate the machine this has become a showstopper.

Any ideas?

have to reboot 9-10 times, then zd1211rw is stable

I bring up my system.
After enabling my zydas wireless card, system generally hangs after about
10-20 seconds.
I have to reboot 9 or 10 times.
When it does not hang, then it is good for a very long time. (many days)
So............ I dread OS updates. Any ideas?

I don't know about you, but after waiting 2 years for zd1211rw driver to
mature, perhaps the best idea is to buy a different
kind of wireless card.

In what way exactly is the zd1211rw not "mature"?

I don't currently use the rw driver - I chose to port the vendor driver forward because it provides master
mode (on 32-bit intel systems), which
the rw driver does not, (despite somebody claim it to be "easy" to add,
as early as 2005, I think).

>From my experience about a year ago of using the rw driver on a 64-bit
system for a few months, the rw driver works quite alright in client/station mode. ad hoc mode support was
added in the last few months,
and master mode is still nowhere in sight. (whereas the vendor driver does
not work at all in 64-bit system, and I have tried looking into it and fixing it without success). While
certainly limited in scope and functionality, what the rw driver claims to do, it does quite well and work
as good as any other wireless device driver within the scope of what it claims to be able to do: station mode
only, cleanly written code which works well on 32-bit/64-bit and non-intel platforms.
