Delay in testing

Hi, I'm just writing to announce that I've given up testing the
zd1211-rw driver on SPARC for now. The 2.6.18-rc4 kernel wouldn't boot
when I tried, and while I think I know what was wrong now, the computer
is no longer in range of an access point since I've now moved. I've
made a note to test it when the computer is moved back where I can
connect to an access point, but this might not be for some time.

Thank you for all your assistance in my port of the non-rw zd1211 code
to SPARC. I am unsubscribing from the list now, so please email me
personally if you would like my help or a copy of my modified non-rw
zd1211 driver for SPARC.

Connection dropped after few secs

Hello

I have D-link DI-524 with WPA, 2.6.16 kernel, A-Link WL54USB dongle. I am able to connect to the access point
and get ip-address through DHCP, but as soon as I try to actually use the connection I get disconnected. The
connection works only for a few seconds. I get "disassociated reason 3" and when I look at the access point
log file, I see line Disassociated wpa retey [sic] failed. (Should be "retry failed").

When I ping the connection right after it has been created, I get timeout regularly. The Linux computer is
located appr. 5 meters from the access point. I have Windows computer next it, no problems with it. When
wpa_supplicant starts to recreate the connection after it has been dropped, the access point seems to be
flooded, because Windows machine also looses connection.

Could anyone help? I'll provide more information if needed. Thanks.

Do you use the vendor or the rewritten (zd1211rw) driver?

It might be useful to add version information of the kernel and
the driver plus a log file.

Regards,

Uli

Sorry for the lag, I tried to get the zd1211rw installed, but I failed.
So I am still using the vendor driver.

I cannot help with the vendor driver. Why did you fail to install
the zd1211rw?

Cheers,

Uli

I dl'ed zd1211rw dated 2006-09-02 and zd1211 firmware 2006-09-02 and
softmac source.

The firmware I got installed, softmac is installed and listed with
lsmod, but when I run make in the driver directory, I get
"zd_netdev.c:208: error: 'ieee80211softmac_wx_set_wap undeclared here
(not in a function)" and also same error from the following lines, with
different variables, all starting with ieee80211softmac_wx". I tried a
snapshot from 2006-08-30 also. (I am not an expert with Linux, so I
might have done a newbie error.)

Kernel 2.6.18 isn't available as a Debian package, I would like to stick
with my current kernel.

    -M.

Re: bug in zd1211rw in kernel 2.6.18-rc4-git1?

Dear Mr. Dingemans,

thank you for your report. We encourage to use the mailing list,
because it increases the probability that answers are provided
timely and somebody can solve your issue. The subscription should
normally be a matter of minutes, but you also can send mail to the
mailing list without being subscribed. In that case, you should
however include a remark that you are not subscribed and answers
should be send in copy to you.

I'm not sure about the old scheme. Normally we would expect it to
work in standard configuration.

Could you provide more information about the problems with rc4?
Please enable the DEBUG option for the driver , which can be set with make
menuconfig or make xconfig. It is available after the driver has
been selected for compilation.

Re: zd1211rw encryption problems

(I noticed I still had this mail sitting in my queue. It's the result of some
minimal testing. I hope it's not old news. BTW I'm temporarily no longer in
possession of a zd1211 device so I can't try out anything for now)

I do not recall any connection failures anymore using linux-2.6.18-rc4 /
wpa_supplicant 0.4.8.

I decided to use netio to get an impression of the performance.
The (maximum) performance seems to be half of that of the vendor driver.
(~1.3 MB/s <-> ~2.5 MB/s)

One thing that caught my eye was that Tx defaulted to ~1Mb/s and Rx seemed to
adapt to the maximum speed possible.
I was able to change Tx with iwconfig. However there seem to be circumstances
where Tx falls back to its lowest setting and I've been unable to get it back
to a higher rate without a reboot. (init 2 / init 3 seem to trigger this, but
restarting the network might do it as well. I didn't observe anything strange
in the logs)
