Massive updates

Hello, all--

I've been hacking on WiFiAdmin 0.0.4 pretty hard to integrate it with
our wireless kits. I've posted a huge patch here:

http://metrix.net/support/patches/

It is specifically designed to work with Pebble Linux (or more
specifically, or modified distribution). That's available here:

http://metrix.net/support/dist/

Most importantly, it now saves all changes to disk in a Debian-friendly
way. There are also a whole bunch of new features. I'm sure many of
the changes aren't appropriate for the general case, but it's working
well with our distribution. I make all kinds of assumptions about the
hardware and Linux environment, so this version is very likely not at
all secure if installed on anything but our distribution.

I hope some of it is useful to the project. I'd appreciate any
feedback.

Cheers,

We are alive!!

Hello, and thank you for your interest in wifiadmin

Both Thanos and me, are students in the computer engineering department,
in Patras, Greece. We are in the middle of an exam period these days, so
development, as far as we are concerned, is practically stalled, until
the end of the month. In the meantime, any comments, suggestions,
contributions, are more than welcomed.

Re: Massive updates

Thanks a lot,

This is the first code contribution we have received, and it is a
pleasant surprise that it comes from you.
I will check it out as soon as i find some time, i m sure it will be
very useful (saving state on the disk is one of the first priorities in
our todo, so we really appreciate your patches).

I hope you don't mind if we put a link to Metrix Pebble distribution on
WiFiAdmin site.

Thanks again.

Good news..

Hi Rob,

Some days ago I somehow reached a seattlewireless blog, where a friend
of yours said that you were showing them your hacks on wifiadmin. So I
was wonder if we would hear from you!

We are honoured to have you on our side, both Thimios and I have read
your books :) We will check out your contributions as soon as possible,
so as we can finally procceed with a new release. As Thimios said,
suggestions are more than welcome.

Configuration persistency is very important, and I think the best way to
start is with support for the debian distro.

Thanks... I expect to do a lot more work on the interface in the next
couple of months.

WiFiAdmin wlan0 wireless status and wireless setting issues

Hello,

I am trying to get wifiadmin to work with my setup.
I am running slackware 10.1 with kernel version 2.6.10.
I am using hostap-driver version 0.3.7.
I am running firmware versions PRI=1.1.1 STA=1.7.4
on a linksys WMP11 netcard.
I have the web server running and working fine.
The wifiadmin seems to work for the most part, but when i try to look at
associated mac's it reports none are currently associated. but the odd
part is the only listed tabs for wireless interfaces are wifi0 and
wlan0ap, wlan0 is only listed under ethernet settings. The same thing
shows up under wireless security, but i get errors
about /proc/net/hostap/wifi0/ap_control is missing. am I missing
something simple or fundimental? do you need more info? please let me
know what I may be doing wrong.

Re: WiFiAdmin wlan0 wireless status and wireless setting issues

Hello,

You are probably doing nothing wrong. I haven't tested wifiadmin with
such a new hostap driver. I 'm installing the new driver on my AP now,
to see what has changed. They have probably changed the way the driver
exports int's info. If that is the case, wifiadmin will probably need
some minor code changes. Thank you for pointing out the problem.

Hello,

You are probably doing nothing wrong. I haven't tested wifiadmin with
such a new hostap driver. I have just installed the new driver on my
ap, but wifiadmin seems to work fine, apart for the fake wifi
interfaces. I 'll work on it tonight, wifiadmin needs some minor
changes. I ll post back when i have more news. Thank you for pointing
out the problem.

Re: WiFiAdmin wlan0 wireless status and wireless setting issues

Here is what i found.

About the fake wifi interface names.
There is a little bug with wifiadmin 0.0.4 and newest hostap driver. It
exposes some fake interface names, wifiX, that do no harm, but look
ugly. Here:

http://wifiadmin.sourceforge.net/no-wifi.patch

is a patch against wifiadmin-0.0.4 that fixes the problem. To apply it,
download it to a convenient path, cd to wifiadmin-0.0.4 directory, and
run: patch -p1 < path-to-the-patch/no-wifi.patch. This will also fix the
proc/net/hostap/wifi0/ap_control missing issue.

About the wlan0 tab missing from your wireless status page, could you
post your iwconfig output, and your ls -lhR /proc/net/hostap output?
