passing on comments

im relaying a couple comments on the Green Dragon node
from attendees of Beer and Blog.

the wifi dog splash page is hard to use because of the tiny
"use the internet" link.
the node forces a reauth after 5 minutes. while i havent
seen this (im using the node right now), its theorized
that 5 minutes of non-http traffic does it.

Personal Telco Weekly Meeting at Node Boston AKA Jason's House

This week's meeting will be at Jason's house, NodeBoston (http://wiki.personaltelco.net/NodeBoston
   6849 N Boston, Portland, OR)

NodeBoston is part of the Arbor Lodge network, which is a great
example of the way that neighbors can build community networks.

Rumor has it that there will be a tasty, home-brewed stout available.

We'll also probably talk about Google Apps and new projects for
Personal Telco to take on.

Post agenda items or get more info here:

Google Apps Education Edition?

Hey all,

As a 501(c)(3), Personal Telco qualifies to get Google Apps Education
Edition for free.

As someone who has done almost nothing with Google Apps (as in I
directed a domain there and then forgot which domain), I'm not sure
what we'd be able to use this for, but it sounds cool.

Does anyone have any opinions on this or a burning desire to work with
this to find applications appropriate to Personal Telco?

Extending Signal at NodeKentonStation

Hello All,

I currently live two blocks south of NodeKentonStation and was
wondering if it would be possible to extend this nodes signal to reach
my house. There is currently an unused dish on my roof (not sure about
direct line of site) and a Linksys WRT54GL router
(http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Hardware/Linksys/WRT54GL)
available for use. We do not have high speed internet access in the
house so my thought was that we could amplify the pre-existing signal
/ connection from Kenton Station for use on my block. I'm not sure if
this configuration makes sense or is the best approach.

I'm a bit of a newbie with regards to mesh networking but am ready and
willing to learn and assist in any way to make this configuration
possible.

Any info / feedback you could provide would be great. I'm a long time
fan/user of the PTP and really appreciate everything the group has
done for Portland. Thanks!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Weekly Meeting tonight Apr 2, 6:30pm

Sorry about the late notice, but:

When: Wednesday, April 2, 2008, 6:30-8:00 pm
Where: http://wiki.personaltelco.net/index.cgi/NodeKlickitat
What: http://wiki.personaltelco.net/index.cgi/WeeklyMeeting20080402

I made some progress on the desktop boxes last night, so I thought we
could maybe break up into a couple teams and some could work on
printing up 20 or so fliers and maybe doing some distribution over on
Mississippi as well, maybe (with any luck) ending up at Amnesia
afterwards. Still, meeting will start at NodeKlickitat (my house).

FTTP = Fiber to the Pizza

Fiber to the Premises got a new meaning when Verizon for some reason
had extra pizza boxes and gave them to Rocco's Pizza.

node red, and black is wonky

I don't know what is up with node red, and black, but every time I use
it I have a lot of frustration. I usually set /etc/resolv.conf on my
laptop to use bind running on my laptop to avoid DNS problems, and I
will randomly get terms of service agreement pages instead of just
once when signing on. This causes a lot of problems with ajax sites
as it seems to be replacing the XML feed that the javascript is
expecting with the service agreement page. It leads to continuous
popups that make it hard to even close the tab.

example message
"This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like
to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?"

Of course that also kinda looks like a man in the middle attack. I
could potentially help someone debug...
