Subject: How to install VNC on AIX5.3 and use it? Someone steps will be more helpful.Thank you!

Hi, all

I download a vnc-3.3.3r2-6.aix5.1.ppc.rpm (there no vnc rpm for 5.3, only this
for 5.1, I think it's ok also) from IBM.com, and install it on AIX5.3
successful by :

    rpm -ivh vnc-3.3.3r2-6.aix5.1.ppc.rpm

and I start it on AIX5.3 by :

    vncserver :1

At first, it said :can't open .../ibmfont..
And then I download imbfont from Xmanager.com and install on AIX5.3,
Then I start vncserver again, it successful.

But I can't connect the VNC on Windows XP using vncvier, it report
10061#(Connection refuesed#)

What shall I do more ?

I appriciate any help from you.
Thank you!

Re: VNC Sessions appears with "Black screen" when I shift VNC Session from one monitor to another....

I think i was not able to explain exact problem.
See when i create session on my monitor size say a X b. Now i am opening
this session on another monitor having size p X q (assume p >a anf q > b).
Here VNC session will be enlarged but i could see that the useful window
will have still resolution of a X b and rest of window will appear as a
black screen.

Hope now you got the problem.

Thanks,

Where is the outside IP?

Hi,

Via the phone, I had my father install VNC server. He started it in
user-mode and the icon appears in the taskbar. So far, so good.

The only IP address he sees when he runs the mouse over the icon is his
local IP (192.168.0.100). Obviously, I need the IP address Verizon is
giving his router. Does VNC do this for me, or is this something I needed
to know ahead of time?

Thanks for your time.

Bruce

http://www.whatismyip.com or similar is your friend. That will show the
external IP of your router. Have your father pull up that website and tell
you what it says.

Re: VNC Sessions appears with "Black screen" when I shift VNC Session from one monitor to another....

Ah! OK, it's a lot clearer.

First of all, what you had seen isn't black *screen*. It's
called black margin / border / area / zone or whatever synomyn you
like, but certainly not *screen* !

You could find the answer to your question / problem in this
mailing-list archive. At least, I had written it already before. So
I'm not going to type the same passage again.

     Good luck

It is you xp that has the problem
a) it is not listening
b) windows firewall does not have a rule allowing that traffic
c) the is a router not forwarding the port to xp
d) anti-virus is blocking it

or any combination of above

Oh, I am sorry.
My description confused you!
I said "But I can't connect the VNC on Windows XP using vncvier...",
That should be :"But I can't connect the VNC on AIX5.3 , I using vncviewer on
WinXP.it report
 10061#(Connection refuesed#) on vncviewer."

Any new idea?
Thank you!

Tabbed view option

Hi,

Is there any option to support tabbed viewing (i.e multiple sessions
tabbed like browser)? This would be really helpful as many users open
multiple sessions simultaneously.

One more useful feature would be to provide an add-on to firefox. I am
not sure if this makes any sense but I see many applications
integrated into Firefox so that I don't have to access them from
different windows.

Thanks,
Ranjith Sajja
