Sound

I'm a newbie at vnc, but have deduced that vnc does not support sound in any (meaningful to me) way.

I work in a school where vnc is used in the ict suite to enable teachers to take remote control of the pupil pcs.

What would be useful for the teacher is to be able to speak to the pupil concerned from a mic on the viewer pc,
and the pupil to be able to hear it on their pc.

Has anyone come across an easy (& free!) solution to this please?

I looked at "speak freely" but that's overkill, and requires the person on the other end to do something.
Ideally it needs to all be controlled from the viewer PC.

Thanks,

Dave Randle

No keyboard/pointer w/ windows XP server and Linux viewer

I'm trying to run vncserver on my Windows XP laptop so I can access it via the
keyboard and mouse on my Linux desktop. The Linux box has RealVNC viewer
installed and I can use it to access VNC servers on other Linux/AIX boxes just
fine. For the Windows XP machine, I've tried the servers from both RealVNC
and TightVNC and get the same results, no keyboard or mouse. The Windows XP
machine has never had "Fast User Switching" enabled and I made sure that the
server is NOT configured for "View-Only" mode. Does anyone know what else
could cause this condition?

Re: Sound

Teamspeak. We use to play games and I believe it is free. You need to do
some setup though.

I am running VNC Server Free Version on Windows XP. Everytime I switch between certain users the connection
is dropped and the following entry is made in the event log:

  Event Type: Error

Event ID: 1
Date: 12/4/2006
Time: 4:44:20 PM

Can anybody suggest how I can fix this?

Black screen

This problem sounds like it must be something really simple but I
can't figure out what it is.
Problem:
- Two computers cannot show each others' screens.
Background:
- Each can view the screens of any others on the network. This holds
true whether the firewalls on each machine are disabled or not.
- Each can authenticate and then login but the result is a black/blank
screen
- Communication information shows zero bits/sec.
- All computers are running VNC 4.1.2 server/client
- Three computers are running the same version of Windows XP, one is
running Fedora Linux (FC4) - the Linux box is not one of the two
problem computers, two of the XP boxes are.
- If I run a virtual machine on the two problem machines, they work
fine. Also, they can both see each others' drives under Windows, so
it's not a networking problem. Repeat: it's not a firewall issue as
disabling firewalls has no effect
- All computers are set up the same - eg to accept input only from the
local subnet

I am stumped by this. Weirdly, all worked fine for months, now this.
Has some XP update broken something?

Thanks in advance

Manek

Connection aborted???

I downloaded and installed Real VNC Free Version 4.1.2 on my
<http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/> Windows XP computer, and successfully
started the <http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/> server. When I try to
connect from my Linux Redhat computer (using the vncviewer function that
comes with Redhat), I get the popup window for my authentication password.
After I enter that, I get an error message that reads "Connection Aborted".

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!
