Fwd: Odd Connect: Can't connect w/Viewer, Can connect w/Listen

I thought this was odd & was unable to find anything in the archives...

I have VNC Free Edition 4.1 setup as Server on B, and Viewer on A.

If I intiate Server, and try to connect through Viewer(A), it is
unable to connect (conenction timed out)

However, if I initiate the Viewer Listen on A, and open client while
on the server (B), it connects fine.

Pings work fine both ways. Also of note, My Netgear Router has Port
Forwarding setup to listen to port 5900 for A. Both machines are on a
home LAN.

Any idea why I can't connect using the Viewer?
Thanks...

SelectObject to CompatibleDC failed: Invalid window handle. (1400)

VNC Free 4.1.1

Connecting to a new Windows Server 2003 box gives the error:

"SelectObject to CompatibleDC failed: Invalid window handle. (1400)"

Searching through other postings the only other occurrence of this issue
relates to dos apps, but this does not apply in my case. I am able to
use Remote Desktop Connection but RealVNC stubbornly refuses to
cooperate :-(

Help please.

Direct download link for VNC 4.1.2 Unix source

Hello,

I'm doing an updated ebuild for Gentoo using modular X.org 7.0 for VNC 4.1.2. The question is that Gentoo
needs a direct download link for the source.

The actual ebuild in the distribution is using 4.0 version, available from
http://www.realvnc.com/dist/vnc-4.0-unixsrc.tar.gz. But newer versions, like 4.1.1 or 4.1.2
aren't available at the following URL's: http://www.realvnc.com/dist/vnc-4.1.1-unixsrc.tar.gz, http://www.realvnc.com/dist/vnc-4.1.2-unixsrc.tar.gz.

Gentoo just needs the direct download link only to upload the source on the mirrors. Actually VNC 4.1.1 or
4.1.2 are only avalaible through a web browser, and not using wget.

Do we have to stick with the 4.0 version? X.org 7.0 has just entered stable on Gentoo, and it will be available
in the 2006.1 install.

Thanks,

Dennis.

I asuume your situation is as follows:

+------------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +----------------+
+ Laptop +---->+ client   +--->+ server +----->+ Windows +
+------------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +----------------+

So you could run Putty on "client"
connecting to server with the parameters
-L 5950:windows:5900

Ah,, Fortunately, we can recognized exactly what you did
by the symptoms, 'cause there is 4 ways to setup VNC in Linux.

For your case:
edit the file .vnc/xstartup
change the line:
twm &
to say
kde &
for KDE...

Cache question

Hi all,

I have a question that might be common knowledge to most. I have used my
laptop to connect to my work machine at my client's office; the question is
this: does VNC store a cache on the viewer machine that I might have to
clear out to
1. free space &
2. maintain client's privacy in case sensitive info is cached on my laptop,
which might then fall in other people's hands.

Is any info/data stored on the viewer machine as a result of connecting to a
VNC server machine? and if so, where is this data located and how can I
remove it?

Thanks in advance! I appreciate your help!

Kevin
