RE: install & version help (long)

Andy,

VNC Server Free Edition can be configured to treat all connections as
view-only, if required.

VNC Server Personal & Enterprise Editions can be configured with a separate
view-only password. Enterprise Edition can alternatively be configured to
use Windows user accounts to authenticate connections, and to determine the
level of access to grant to a connection based on that.

Regards,

Wez <at> RealVNC Ltd.

resolution problem.

hello.
i use linux slackware 10.2 with kde 3.5.2 and vnc free 4.1
resently i have come by a new screen and improved the linux resolution
to 1152x864. and a 75hzrefresh rate.
when tring to connect to the linux computer from a windows computer i
get a blored image as if the resolution is to big.
my vnc runs on boot in the xorg.conf.
how do i force the vnc to transmit in a 1024x768 res, or how do i force
the windows client to lower the view window res?

Mac client?

I'm connecting to an Adderlink IP box from a Mac running OS X. The
documentation specifies that the latest RealVNC Enterprise client should be
used - and indeed my regular VNC client, Chicken of the VNC, does not work.
The browser-based java client does work, but I'd rather use a standalone
application.

Is there a RealVNC client for the Mac available, or in the works?

Thanks,
Matt

RE: Multiple Connections AKA Tunneling...

I think it is because you may be using the same login twice. I dont think
you can not have the same USER signed into the same machine using remote
desktop. Try setting up a new user for PC #1 and then when you remote
desktop in from PC #2, sign in with the new user.

When I open up my viewer it will not stop opening. It
just keeps opening one on top of the other. What can I
do to stop this?

Port forwarding challenges

Well, having VNC over the local network working, I'm trying out the
next steps; getting it working from the outside internet (so I can
access my home machine during the installfest from my laptop) and
securing it via ssh.

I've been reading up, and went through this tutorial:
http://www.realvnc.com/support/portforward.html

to set up my router (a bit of a pain, this particular D-link only
allows for 10 virtual servers, and the tutorial asked for 3!). Got it
up and running, and ran the test link
(http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/nettest.cgi) provided, and it's
hanging, the connection times out. Same thing happens when I try and
run vncserver using my outside IP.

So I know something's not getting through. I have ports 5500, 5800 and
5900 allowed on my firewall (software) and set on my router, so I'm
not sure why I'm getting that issue.

For the record, the server is running on my Ubuntu Linux desktop, and
I'm accessing primarily from a Ubuntu laptop, as well as Windows
desktops.

This is my first post on the list, it was recommended by Mike Miller
from Twin Cities Linux User's Group. Thanks in advance

RE: Multiple Connections AKA Tunneling...

I used 2 VNC's and it worked. I think the 1st time I tried doing VNC to
VNC I was typing the IP address of PC #2, instead of PC #1, and it would
kick me out because i was trying to VNC into myself. That fixes that
problem.

Now my next problem. My laptop will not go above 1024x768 resolution...
And the PC's that I connect to are 1280x1024. Is there any solution to
this yet?

I keep begging the company to get me a new laptop, but they won't, seeing
as this laptop is only 1.5 years old, and was a whopping $1299 when they
bought it. :-\

RE: XFree86-4.6 and realvnc 4.1.2

Tom,

Make sure you've followed exactly the build instructions for building VNC
Free Edition. You'll need to look in the Imakefile for the
xc/programs/Xserver/vnc directory to comment out the module, if I remember
correctly.

Is there any particular reason why you want to build from source rather than
just using the pre-built binaries?

Cheers,

RE: Windows Vista Beta 2 5384 and RealVNC 4.11 connection problem

Abrey,

Try opening a Command-Prompt, then cd'ing into the Program Files directory
for VNC and running winvnc4.exe. You should find that it prints out the
reason why it couldn't listen for connections.
